The history of this site began in 1962 when city officials started actively searching for a location for a municipal ski center. After considering several options, the current location was chosen, and in 1971, the complex officially opened its doors to visitors. The resort was named after T. Edward McIntyre, the first superintendent of the city's Parks and Recreation Department, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of sports in the region.

For a long time, until 2009, the facility was managed directly by city services. However, a new phase of development began when management was transferred to McIntyre Ski School, Inc. under a long-term lease. This decision brought significant investment: modern "magic carpets" (conveyor lifts) appeared on the slopes, the snowmaking system was updated, and a spacious modern lodge was built.

Interestingly, McIntyre Ski Area has also made its mark in popular culture. In 2014, its snowy landscapes served as the backdrop for the filming of the feature movie "In Your Eyes". Today, the resort continues to thrive under professional management, maintaining its status as the premier training ground for future New Hampshire champions.
