North Pointe Aquatic Center

About

Imagine a perfect summer day filled with laughter, splashing water, and bright sunshine—this is exactly the atmosphere the North Pointe Aquatic Center offers its guests. This modern family complex, located in a quiet suburb of St. Louis, is rightfully considered one of the best public water centers in the USA. Opened in 2003 and fully renovated in 2017, it combines athletic functionality with pure recreational fun.

The main highlight of the complex is its 1,000-foot lazy river, which gently winds around the main relaxation areas past a picturesque waterfall. For those seeking adrenaline, there are impressive two-story slides—both open and enclosed—as well as the unique Tree Swing, where you can make a spectacular leap into the water. The heart of the park is a massive zero-entry pool featuring a vortex and numerous water sprayers.

For the youngest visitors, there is a safe, dedicated pool with the Bucket Falls play structure, where a giant bucket periodically tips over a torrent of water to the delight of the children. Competitive swimmers will appreciate the 25-meter, 10-lane competition pool. Thanks to its thoughtful layout and soft-surfaced splash pad, North Pointe Aquatic Center has become a favorite summer destination in West Missouri.

What to Do

At this aquatic center, everyone will find something to enjoy. Those seeking relaxation can drift for hours along the lazy river, enjoying the cool, steady flow of the water. If you prefer action, head to the two-story slides or test your coordination on the diving boards and the famous Tree Swing in the deep end of the pool.

For those watching their fitness, special programs are available: aqua fitness in the evenings and on Saturday mornings, as well as river walking (walking against the current) in the lazy river—an excellent way to strengthen muscles without unnecessary joint strain. Athletes can take one of the lanes in the main pool for serious training. Meanwhile, kids will find it impossible to leave the splash pad and the play structure featuring Hector the Heron.

The event calendar at the aquatic center is always full. It hosts cozy Twilight Swims, Family Float Fridays, and even Little Splashers days for the youngest guests. At the end of the season, the traditional Dog Swim is held—a fun event where four-legged friends are invited to take a dip in the pools. For a snack, there is an on-site grill bar offering a classic summer menu.

Getting There

The easiest way to reach this aquatic oasis, located at 335 Holloway Rd, Ballwin, is by private or rental car. The drive from downtown St. Louis takes approximately 25–30 minutes. The main routes follow the I-270 or I-44 highways, making the trip fast and comfortable.

For those who prefer public transportation, Metro St. Louis buses serve the Ballwin suburb. However, keep in mind that you may need to transfer to a taxi or take a short walk from the nearest stop. For families with children and bulky beach bags, using a taxi or a personal vehicle is the most convenient option.

The center provides ample free parking on-site, so visitors usually have no trouble finding a spot for their car.

History & Facts

The history of this venue began in 2003, when the city of Ballwin decided to create a modern recreation area for West County residents. The project was brought to life by Markey with contractor Landmark Aquatic. The result exceeded expectations: immediately after opening, the St. Louis Riverfront Times honored the facility with the title of "Best Public Pool."

Since then, the aquatic center has become a key landmark on Missouri's entertainment map. To maintain high standards of comfort and safety, a major renovation was carried out in 2017. During the project, equipment was updated and the design of the attractions was refreshed, all while preserving the beloved atmosphere of a cozy family club.

Over its years of operation, the North Pointe Aquatic Center has developed its own traditions. An entire generation of locals has grown up here, first learning to swim in the kiddie pool and now bringing their own children. Despite new competitors, the complex consistently maintains its status as one of the most popular water centers in the St. Louis suburbs.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy all the water attractions, visitors are recommended to set aside 3 to 6 hours for their visit. This is plenty of time to float down the lazy river several times, try out all the slides, and unwind in the relaxation area.

Families with young children often prefer to spend the entire day here, alternating between active play in the kiddie pool and an outdoor lunch. If you only plan to swim laps or participate in an aqua aerobics class, an hour and a half to two hours might be sufficient.

Working Hours

As North Pointe Aquatic Center is an outdoor facility, its operation is seasonal. The season typically kicks off in late May, just in time for Memorial Day, and runs through early September. In 2026, the opening is scheduled for May 23rd. During the peak of summer, the gates are open daily from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and on some Fridays in July, hours are extended until 9:00 PM for special event programming.

Please note that the schedule changes in the second half of August: the complex may be closed on weekdays and only open on weekends. Be sure to check the official website before your trip to confirm the current schedule, as it may be adjusted based on weather conditions.
