Getting to know the cultural code of the Republic of Mari El is impossible without visiting its main treasure house—the T. Evseev National Museum. Located in the heart of Yoshkar-Ola, this museum is one of the oldest in the region. It occupies a historic early 20th-century building that is an architectural landmark in its own right.

The museum's collections are impressive: it houses more than 228,000 unique exhibits. Representing the history and lifestyle of Russia, its halls contain rare ethnographic collections, ancient archaeological finds, and magnificent Mari national costumes.
The museum is named after Timofey Evseev—a prominent scientist and ethnographer who dedicated his life to collecting and preserving the traditions of the Mari people. Today, it is not just an exhibition space, but an educational and research center where the ancient rituals and legends of this forest land come to life.
