The climate in Larnaca can be described as typical subtropical Mediterranean, making this city an attractive holiday destination practically all year round. The weather here is characterised by stability: you can expect long, hot, and dry summers, as well as mild but wetter winters. Thanks to its southern location, extreme cold is a rarity here, and even in the coolest months, the temperature remains comfortable for walks by the sea.

The distinct summer season lasts from June to September. During this time, the air warms up to an average of 30°C and above, and rain is almost completely absent, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday. Winter (from December to February) brings cooler weather with average temperatures around 13–15°C and an increase in the number of rainy days. Spring and autumn are transitional periods with very pleasant, warm weather, when you can already enjoy the sun without the exhausting heat.

The climate in Larnaca features distinct seasonality, characteristic of the Mediterranean. The hottest period is traditionally July and August, when the average air temperature holds steady at 30°C, and daytime highs regularly reach a sweltering 35°C. Conversely, the coolest months are considered to be January and February: at this time, the air warms up to an average of 16°C during the day, while night temperatures drop to 9–10°C, making the winter here very mild and frost-free.

The summer season in the city is long and hot. Dry weather prevails from June to September, and even the nights do not bring significant relief: in July and August, the night-time temperature rarely drops below 25°C. This is the ideal time for those who love the heat and a warm sea. Spring and autumn, especially May and October, offer more moderate conditions with daytime temperatures ranging from 23°C to 28°C, which is perfect for walking and sightseeing without the stifling heat.

It is also worth noting the daily temperature fluctuations, which become more noticeable in the transitional seasons and summer. While in winter the difference between day and night is only 6–7 degrees, at the height of summer the amplitude increases to almost 10 degrees (from 35°C during the day to 25.6°C at night). Although summer nights remain very warm, this difference allows the air to cool down slightly, making evenings on the coast particularly pleasant.

Precipitation in Larnaca is distributed extremely unevenly throughout the year, which is typical for a classic Mediterranean climate. There is a clear division here into an arid summer season and a wetter winter period. Since the temperature rarely drops to critical levels even on the coldest nights, precipitation almost always falls as rain, while snow in the coastal zone is an exceptional phenomenon.

Lovers of cloudless skies should plan their trip for the summer. The period from May to September is the driest: the amount of precipitation at this time tends towards zero. According to statistics, July and August are the driest months of the year, when there are usually no rainy days at all. June and September also delight with stable weather, with a probability of precipitation of just 1–2 days for the entire month.

The main part of the annual rainfall occurs between November and March. The wettest month is considered to be January, when an average of about 11 days with precipitation is recorded. December and February are also characterised by increased humidity (8–10 rainy days). In transitional months, such as April and October, it rains less frequently (about 4–5 days), bringing pleasant freshness but not interfering with walks.

When packing for Larnaca in summer, opt for light and loose clothing made from natural fabrics to comfortably handle the heat, which often exceeds 30°C in July and August. Be sure to put swimwear, a wide-brimmed hat, and quality sunglasses in your suitcase. The sun here is very active, so a cream with a high protection factor (SPF 30-50) will become your main companion on the beaches and during excursions.

If your trip is planned for the winter months or the off-season, the principle of layering will be most appropriate. In winter, the temperature can drop to 9-10°C at night, and the number of rainy days increases, so a light waterproof jacket or windbreaker, as well as a compact umbrella, will be necessary. For spring and autumn evenings, bring sweaters or cardigans, as a fresh breeze often blows from the sea.
