What to Do

A visit to MiniZoo is more than just watching animals through glass; it’s a truly interactive experience. Here, you can examine rare reptiles in detail and listen to the owner’s captivating stories, which he peppers with a touch of dark humor. This place offers a rare opportunity to overcome your fears and get closer to the exotic world right in the center of Pärnu.

For brave visitors, there is an option for close contact with the inhabitants: under the owner's supervision, you can hold gentle racers or small pythons, pet a turtle's shell, or even let a large tarantula crawl across your palm. A guest favorite is Frida the iguana, who is known for her friendly nature and loves public attention.

Children will be thrilled to watch the family of turtles in the open pool or see the "smile" of a small crocodile. Adults will appreciate the collection of venomous snakes and rare facts about insect life. Sometimes the owner offers guests playful challenges, such as "getting to know" giant Madagascar hissing cockroaches, making a visit to MiniZoo truly unforgettable.

Getting There

Finding MiniZoo is easy, as it is located in the very heart of Pärnu at Vana-Tallinna tn 1. Please note that the actual entrance is located on the Akadeemia 7 street side. Thanks to its central location, the terrarium is just a 10–15 minute walk from major tourist sites, such as the promenade or the historic city center.

If you plan to use public transport, take any bus heading to the city center stops. From the nearest bus station, the walk will take no more than 10 minutes. For those who prefer a taxi, a ride from anywhere in the city will be quick and inexpensive, as the distances here are quite small.

Travelers by car can reach the site by following signs to Vana-Tallinna Street. Parking spaces are available near the facility. If you are driving from Tallinn, the trip via the highway takes about two hours, making a visit to the zoo an excellent option for a weekend getaway.

History & Facts

Despite its compact size, this private terrarium has become one of the most talked-about attractions hidden in Estonia. Its history is inseparable from the passion of its owner, who decided to create a unique space for exotic inhabitants not typical of northern latitudes.

Over the years, an impressive collection of reptiles has formed here and continues to grow. Interestingly, many of the residents arrived here as tiny hatchlings and have grown up right before the eyes of regular visitors. MiniZoo has become more than just a place to display animals; it is a true educational center where myths about "scary" snakes and spiders are debunked.

The personal involvement of the founder in every process—from feeding to leading tours—gives the place a special atmosphere. This has turned the small space into a cozy corner where every inhabitant has its own name and story. High ratings and positive reviews from tourists confirm that sincere care for the animals is valued much more by guests than the massive enclosures of state zoos.

Time Needed

Typically, exploring the exhibit takes between 30 to 40 minutes. This is plenty of time to see all the residents of the terrarium and read the information plaques detailing the habits of the snakes and insects.

If you are visiting with children or decide to chat with the charismatic owner, your visit might extend to one hour. The interactive portion, which includes the chance to hold some of the reptiles, usually generates a lot of interest and encourages guests to stay longer.
