In the heart of Mariehamn lies a unique place where the history of great geographical discoveries and the rugged daily lives of sailors come to life. The Åland Maritime Museum is a modern, world-class cultural complex, recognized as one of the best in Finland for its impressive collection and interactive approach to exhibitions.

The building's architecture is an attraction in itself: designed in the spirit of Nordic Classicism, it resembles the bow of a giant ship coming ashore. The museum serves as a majestic monument to the era when the Åland Islands possessed the world's largest fleet of wooden sailing vessels, roaming the oceans from Europe to Australia.
The centerpiece of the museum complex is the four-masted barque Pommern, moored right outside the museum in the Western Harbour. Together, they create a unique ensemble that immerses visitors in the atmosphere of past sea voyages, telling stories of courage, trade, and the unbreakable bond between man and the sea.
