Heidelberg Market Square (Marktplatz) is the heart of Heidelberg's Old Town and one of its main gems. It is not just a square, but a true historical core where the unique spirit of old Germany can be felt. Cozy and picturesque, it has served as the center of public and commercial life for centuries, and today it attracts tourists with its unique atmosphere and architectural ensemble.

The architectural appearance of the square is shaped by several magnificent old buildings. Among them stands out the Town Hall (Rathaus), built in the Baroque style in the early 18th century after the destruction caused to the city during the War of the Palatine Succession. Nearby rises the majestic Gothic Church of the Holy Spirit—Heidelberg's largest church, which also suffered heavily during that period but was restored and still impresses with its appearance today. Special attention should be paid to the Knight's House (Haus zum Ritter), built in 1592, which miraculously survived the wars and is today one of the oldest buildings in the city, currently housing a hotel.
In the center of the Market Square stands the famous fountain with a figure of Hercules. It was installed after the end of the War of the Palatine Succession and symbolizes the titanic efforts the residents made to rebuild their beloved city. This square, framed by historical buildings, remains a central place for meetings, walks, and enjoying the unique atmosphere of Heidelberg to this day.
