One of the museum's most striking features is its architecture. The building is designed as a giant 41-meter-high cone, symbolizing a mound of salt. This design is a direct reference to the famous Salt March (Dandi March) led by Gandhi in 1930 to protest the British salt tax, which became a turning point in India's struggle for independence.
The Dandi Kutir Museum is rightfully considered India's largest and only museum focused entirely on Mahatma Gandhi and his principles of non-violent resistance. Built by the Government of Gujarat, it opened to the public in 2015. The museum is conveniently connected by a bridge to the Mahatma Mandir Convention Center and is part of Gandhinagar’s extensive Central Vista complex, making it a major cultural and educational hub.
