About

Bar La Floridiana is an essential part of the eponymous four-star hotel that has become a symbol of family hospitality in the town of Capri. Located on the quiet Via Campo di Teste, this establishment offers guests a chance to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of authentic dolce vita. Italy is famous for its traditions, and here they are evident in every detail: from the elegant mosaic tiles on the floors to the panoramic terraces overlooking the azure sea.

Although tourist guides often classify it as a bar, it is actually a complete space for relaxation. The establishment is known for its attention to detail and family atmosphere, which has been maintained for decades by the Esposito dynasty. This place is ideal for those seeking privacy while being just a few minutes' walk from the island's bustling center.

The interiors of the hotel and bar are designed in the classic Capri style — light tones, plenty of greenery, and open spaces. The main highlight is the combination of the early 20th-century villa's historical heritage and modern premium-class service, making it a popular choice for a romantic getaway.

What to Do

The main pleasure here is breakfast on the panoramic terrace. Guests are invited to taste the freshest pastries, local cheeses, fruit, and signature desserts such as tiramisu or panna cotta while admiring the endless horizon. At the bar, it is worth ordering a glass of local wine or traditional limoncello made from the famous Capri lemons.

For those seeking relaxation, an outdoor swimming pool with a unique mosaic design is available, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. You can also visit the spa area, which offers massage services and hydromassage baths. If you prefer an active holiday, the staff can help organize tours around the island, diving, or a boat trip to the legendary Faraglioni rocks.

Thanks to its fortunate location, it is very convenient to take walks to the luxury boutiques on Via Camerelle or head to the Belvedere di Tragara viewpoint. In the evening, a particularly romantic atmosphere prevails in the bar, perfect for ending a busy day on the island to the sounds of light music.

Getting There

Getting to this cozy corner of the island is fairly simple, though it is worth remembering that the central part of the town is a pedestrian zone. First, you need to arrive on the island by ferry or high-speed hydrofoil from Naples or Sorrento at the port of Marina Grande.

From the port, it is most convenient to go up to the town center on the famous funicular, a trip that takes only a few minutes. From the upper funicular station at the Piazzetta to the hotel, it is approximately a 10–12 minute leisurely walk through picturesque streets. The path passes by fashionable boutiques and leads into a quieter, greener part of the town.

If you are traveling with heavy luggage, it is recommended to use the porter service (luggage delivery), as the route to Via Campo di Teste, 16 includes some small inclines. You can also take a taxi from the port to the nearest point to the hotel allowed for vehicle traffic and then proceed on foot.

History & Facts

The history of this place is inextricably linked to the Esposito family. It all began in the early 20th century when Antonio Esposito, who worked as a gardener at a villa in Naples, returned to his home island and entered the service of Baroness Gudrun von Uexküll. In recognition of his loyalty, the baroness provided him with a small house, which Antonio named after his former workplace — La Floridiana.

A fateful turn occurred in 1924. Thanks to the intercession of the famous physician and writer Axel Munthe, the baroness agreed to sell the house to Antonio for a symbolic sum. Antonio's son, Mario, proved to be a talented entrepreneur: he gradually expanded the building, turning it into one of the island's first hotels to actively cooperate with international travel agencies.

In the 1960s, Mario's contributions to the development of tourism were recognized at the state level — he received the honorary title of Knight of Labour (Cavaliere del Lavoro) from the President of Italy. Today, the fourth generation of the family continues the hospitality traditions, carefully preserving the atmosphere of old Capri while complementing it with modern comforts.

Time Needed

If you plan to stop by Bar La Floridiana for a refreshing cocktail or to enjoy the famous breakfast on the terrace, allow about 1–2 hours for your visit. This is quite enough time to soak in the atmosphere and take beautiful photos of the sea views.

For those who wish to use the spa center services or spend time by the mosaic-bottomed pool, it is better to set aside half a day. The relaxed pace of life on the island does not tolerate rushing, so it is worth staying here longer to enjoy the tranquility away from the noisy tourist trails.

Working Hours

The hotel itself and its reception desk operate 24/7, ensuring maximum comfort for arriving tourists. However, the operation of specific areas may depend on the time of day and the season.

Breakfasts are usually served in the morning hours on the terrace, and the bar stays open until late evening. It is important to note that the outdoor pool is seasonal and is open during the warmer months (typically from May to October). Before visiting, it is recommended to check the current schedule for the restaurant and spa services on the official website or by phone.
