The climate of Tsushima can be described as temperate marine and humid, strongly influenced by a warm current. Thanks to its island location, there are no severe frosts here, and temperature fluctuations throughout the year are quite gradual. This makes travelling comfortable, although tourists should be prepared for the high humidity characteristic of this region of Japan.

The seasons on the island are distinct. Winter is mild here, with average temperatures around 7–8 °C, allowing for sightseeing without the need to bundle up in heavy clothing. Summer is warm and even hot: in August, the air warms up to an average of 28 °C; however, the peak of rainy days falls precisely during the summer months. July can be particularly overcast, so an umbrella will be an indispensable accessory for a trip in the middle of the year.

Many travellers consider spring and autumn the most favourable times to visit. During these periods, for example in May or October, pleasant warm weather sets in with a moderate amount of precipitation. These are ideal conditions for long walks along the coast and exploring the rich nature of Tsushima without the exhausting summer heat or the winter chill.

The temperature regime on the island of Tsushima is characterised by mildness and a lack of sharp extremes, due to the strong influence of the sea. The annual temperature progression is smooth: the coldest month is traditionally January with average figures from 5.1 °C to 9.0 °C, while the peak heat occurs in August. Overall, the climate here is favourable for visiting at any time of year, as even in winter the thermometer rarely drops below freezing, and in summer there is no exhausting desert heat.

The summer season is characterised by warm and humid weather. In August, the air warms up to an average of 28.8 °C during the day, but it is worth noting an interesting feature of the local climate: the difference between day and night temperatures is minimal. For instance, in July and August, night-time figures (around 24–26 °C) are only slightly lower than daytime ones, creating the effect of "tropical nights" when the coolness is hardly felt after sunset.

Winter in Tsushima, on the other hand, is quite mild and cool, but not freezing. From December to February, the temperature stays in a comfortable range of 6 °C to 10 °C. Spring and autumn serve as pleasant transitional periods: already in May the air warms up to 18–19 °C, and September keeps the summer warmth for a long time with average temperatures around 25 °C, before cooling down to 14 °C by November.

Precipitation on Tsushima falls throughout the year, but its intensity and frequency change noticeably depending on the season. The island's climate is characterised by the absence of a pronounced dry period, but wetter and relatively dry months can be distinguished. Travellers should take into account that rain is not uncommon here, so waterproof clothing or an umbrella will be useful on any trip.

The wettest period is summer, especially July, which leads in the frequency of precipitation: it rains on average 16 days a month. June and August are also distinguished by high humidity (11–14 rainy days), which is connected with the traditional Japanese rainy season "Tsuyu" and summer cyclones. In these months, as well as in September, the highest volume of falling moisture is recorded.

Late autumn and early winter can be called the least rainy time of the year. In November, the number of days with precipitation drops to a minimum (about 8 days), making this month one of the most comfortable for walks. In winter, in January and February, it rains moderately often (about 9 days a month). Since the average temperature remains positive even in the coldest months (around +5...+7°C), precipitation falls mainly in the form of rain, and snow is a rare guest.

When packing for a trip to Tsushima, it is worth considering the features of the island climate: humidity is quite high here and sea winds often blow. Winters are mild but cool, with an average temperature of around +7…+8 °C, so a warm windproof jacket, scarf, and gloves will be necessary for comfortable walks along the coast. In spring and late autumn, the weather is changeable, so it is best to use the layering principle: a t-shirt, a light jumper, and a windbreaker can be combined depending on whether the sun has come out or the wind has picked up.

Summer on the island is warm, with the air warming up to +28 °C in August, but you should be prepared for the rainy season, especially in June and July, when the number of rainy days reaches a maximum (up to 16 days a month). During this period, be sure to take a reliable umbrella, a raincoat, and quick-drying shoes. It is better to choose clothes made of light, breathable fabrics, such as linen or cotton, to tolerate the humidity more easily. Do not forget sunscreen and a hat, as UV rays are active even through the clouds.
