The climate of Fresnillo is semi-arid and largely determined by its location on the high plateau of the state of Zacatecas. At an altitude of over 2,100 meters above sea level, this part of Mexico is dominated by dry and sunny weather with distinct seasonality, yet without extreme temperature fluctuations.

Throughout the year, travelers can expect plenty of clear days and low humidity. There is a warm season, lasting from late April to June, and a cooler winter period. Thanks to the mountain air, summer heat feels less intense, while winters remain mild enough for long walks and sightseeing.

One of the key features of the local climate is the significant diurnal temperature variation. Due to continental influence and thin mountain air, heat escapes quickly after sunset; therefore, even after a hot day, the evening can bring a pleasant, and sometimes bracing, chill.

The temperature regime in Fresnillo is characterized by moderation and comfort. The hottest month is usually June, when daytime highs often exceed +28°C, and on some days can even reach +30°C. The spring months, especially May, also offer consistent warmth, creating ideal conditions for exploring the region's architecture.

The winter period in this part of Mexico brings refreshing coolness. December and January are the coldest months, when daytime temperatures rise to a quite comfortable +20°C, but can drop to +5°C at night. Frosts below zero are extremely rare here, making the city suitable for visiting at any time of year.

Fresnillo is characterized by an arid precipitation pattern typical of semi-desert regions. Annual rainfall rarely exceeds 500 mm, with most rain falling during a short period from June to September. Snow in Fresnillo is an exceptionally rare phenomenon. Despite the significant altitude, the dry air prevents the formation of snow cover. Frost is possible in the early morning hours during winter, but generally, winter precipitation is limited to rare drizzle that quickly gives way to bright sunshine.

When packing for Fresnillo, follow the principle of layering. For daytime walks at any time of year, items made from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen are essential. In summer (April to June), don't forget light shorts, T-shirts, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat—the sun at this altitude in Mexico is very strong.

For the evening, even during the warm season, you will need a light sweater or windbreaker. If your trip is planned for winter (November–February), be sure to bring warmer clothes: jeans, sweaters, and even thin gloves for the early morning hours. Comfortable closed-toe shoes with good arch support will be indispensable when exploring the rocky landscapes of the plateau.
