The Båtsfjord Brygge Arctic Resort complex is designed for fans of active recreation and wildlife. It provides all the necessary conditions for deep-sea fishing and observing rare Arctic birds, while its proximity to the Varangerhalvøya National Park makes it an ideal base for Northern explorers.

Although the facility is often classified as a bar or pub, it is a full-fledged tourist hub with certified service. What to Do

The highlight of Båtsfjord Brygge is undoubtedly the gastronomy. The local restaurant serves the freshest seafood, prepared in the best Scandinavian traditions: from classic fish and chips to exquisite dishes made from the catch of the day. After a busy day, you can stop by the cozy pub or completely relax in the sauna and two outdoor jacuzzis while watching the ships in the port.

For adventure seekers, the resort offers a wide range of activities. In winter, these include safaris to observe the unique King Eider and hunts for the Northern Lights, while in summer, boat trips offer encounters with humpback whales and orcas. Boat and bicycle rentals are also available for exploring the rugged Varanger landscapes on your own.

Photographers and nature lovers will find perfect angles here: from the industrial romance of the port to the wild cliffs of Syltefjord. Thanks to free Wi-Fi and comfortable conference rooms, the place is also suitable for those who want to combine work with contemplating the midnight sun.

Getting There

A journey to this Arctic corner usually begins with a flight. The nearest airport to Båtsfjord is only 10–11 kilometers from the resort, making the transfer quick and highly comfortable—the drive by car or taxi takes about 15 minutes.

For those who prefer land transport, the town can be reached by bus or car via the scenic E75 highway. The resort is located in the very center of the village at Strandvegen 14-16, right by the sea and main shops, allowing you to easily explore the surroundings on foot.

If you arrive in town on the Hurtigruten coastal ferry, the walk to Båtsfjord Brygge takes very little time. For guests booking longer stays, the owners often help organize an individual transfer directly from the terminal or airport.

History & Facts

The history of Båtsfjord Brygge began in 2013 when a couple, Monica and Frode, decided to turn their love for Arctic culture and gastronomy into a unique tourism project. They transformed the coastal area into a modern Arctic Resort while preserving the atmosphere of a traditional Norwegian fishing village.

Båtsfjord itself holds the status of the largest fishing port in the Finnmark region. This heritage is closely intertwined with the resort's concept: the freshest seafood arrives in the restaurant kitchen directly from the fishing vessels moored just a few meters from the entrance.

Interestingly, the Varanger region, where the complex is located, is considered one of the best places in the world for Arctic birdwatching. Thanks to the warm Gulf Stream, the fjords here do not freeze even in the harshest winters, which has historically attracted rare bird species such as the Steller's eider.

In 2021, the founders' efforts were officially recognized: Båtsfjord Brygge received a prestigious award for best service in Northern Varanger. This confirmed its reputation as the most hospitable and cozy pier for travelers in this part of Norway.

Time Needed

If your goal is simply to have dinner at the restaurant or enjoy a glass of beer at the pub, you should allow 1–2 hours for your visit to Båtsfjord Brygge. This is plenty of time to appreciate the Arctic cuisine and the cozy interior.

For those who want to fully relax in the sauna or jacuzzi with a sea view, it’s best to set aside at least half a day. To truly immerse yourself in the atmosphere of northern fishing and take part in excursions, experienced travelers recommend staying for 1–2 days.
