Weather Overview

The climate in the city of Presidente Franco (Paraguay) can be characterised as humid subtropical, with warm weather prevailing throughout most of the year. There is no extreme cold here, making the city accessible for visits in any season. Overall, the weather varies from hot and humid summers to mild and pleasant winters.

The summer season, which lasts here from December to February, is distinguished by high temperatures: the thermometer often rises above 31°C. This is also the wettest time of the year, especially January, when rains occur quite frequently. Winter (from June to August), on the contrary, brings comfortable coolness with average temperatures around 18°C and minimums down to 13–14°C, while the amount of precipitation decreases noticeably, especially in July.

The transitional periods — spring and autumn — pass smoothly, delighting tourists with moderate warmth. However, it is worth noting that humidity and the number of rainy days increase again in October after the dry winter season. When planning a trip to Presidente Franco, you should expect plenty of sun, but in the summer months, a light raincoat or umbrella will become indispensable companions.

Temperature

The climate in Presidente Franco is noted for its warm and favourable character, but with a clearly defined hot season. The highest temperatures are traditionally recorded during the Southern Hemisphere summer months — in December and January. During this period, the daytime heat can reach average highs of 31°C and above. Nights at the height of summer remain very warm, with temperatures around 22–23°C, creating a tropical resort atmosphere, but potentially requiring air conditioning for a comfortable rest.

The winter period, which lasts from June to August, is very mild here and bears no resemblance to harsh cold. July is considered the coolest month, when the average temperature drops to 18°C. Even in winter, the days remain quite comfortable: the sun warms the air up to 22–23°C, which is ideal for excursions. However, daily temperature fluctuations should be taken into account: nights become noticeably fresher, and the thermometer may drop to 13–15°C, so a light jacket or jumper in your luggage will not go amiss.

The transitional seasons, spring and autumn, offer perhaps the most balanced conditions for travel. In April and October, the average temperature holds around a comfortable 24°C. Throughout the year, a moderate difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows is observed, usually amounting to about 8–9 degrees. This natural drop brings pleasant evening coolness even after the hottest days, making a stay in the city enjoyable at any time of year.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Presidente Franco is distributed unevenly throughout the year, allowing for a distinction between wetter and relatively dry seasons. Since the city is located in a warm climate zone, precipitation here falls exclusively as rain. Snow is uncharacteristic for this region of Paraguay, even in the coolest months when temperatures drop to their minimum.

The highest frequency of rain is observed in the summer period and early autumn. The "wettest" month in terms of the number of inclement days is January, when precipitation can occur up to 17 days a month. A high probability of rain also persists in October (about 13 days) and December. At this time, an umbrella will become an essential accessory for the traveller, although rains often bring pleasant relief during hot days.

The winter period, conversely, is characterised by drier weather. The most favourable months in terms of minimum precipitation are July and August, when only about 6 rainy days are recorded. This time is ideally suited for planning long excursions and visiting natural attractions, as the sky remains clear more often.

What to Pack

A trip to Presidente Franco requires a thoughtful approach to your wardrobe, as the climate here is predominantly warm, but with a high probability of precipitation. For a trip during the summer months (from November to March), when the daytime temperature often exceeds 30°C, loose clothing made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen, is ideal. Be sure to pack reliable sunscreen, dark sunglasses, and a hat in your suitcase to protect yourself from the strong sun. Given that rainy days happen quite often throughout the year, a compact umbrella or a light raincoat will become your indispensable companions.

If you plan a visit during the winter period (from May to August), be prepared for changeable weather. During the day it can be comfortable and warm, but nights become cool, with temperatures around +13...+15°C. At this time of year, it is best to use the layering principle: take t-shirts, jeans, and a warm sweater, windbreaker, or cardigan with you, which can be easily removed or put on when necessary. Regardless of the season, for excursions around the city and its surroundings, you will need comfortable, proven walking shoes, for example, trainers with non-slip soles.
