General Weather Overview

The climate in El Nido can be described as typically tropical, with high humidity and consistently warm weather throughout the year. There is no distinct winter or cold season here: the average air temperature fluctuates within a very narrow range from +26°C to +28°C, making the resort attractive for beach holidays regardless of the calendar month. Even on the "coolest" nights, the temperature rarely drops below +25°C.

The year is clearly divided into two main seasons: dry and wet. The dry season lasts roughly from January to April. This is the most popular time for tourists, as the number of rainy days is minimal (especially in February and March), and the sky delights with clear weather. This period sees the least amount of rainfall, which is ideal for sea trips and island exploration.

From May, the situation changes: the rainy season begins, continuing until the end of the year. During this time, especially in July and October, the number of days with precipitation can reach 29 per month. Rains are often short but intense, giving way to sunshine, though the sky is more frequently overcast. Despite the high probability of rainfall, the air remains summer-hot, creating an atmosphere characteristic of the tropics.

Temperature

The climate in El Nido is distinguished by amazing stability, offering travellers comfortable warmth throughout the year. The annual temperature range here is minimal, making the resort an ideal place for a holiday regardless of the season. According to statistics, the hottest month is May with an average maximum of about 29.9°C, with April following closely behind. The "coolest" period can be considered February, when the average temperature drops to 26.6°C, which by the standards of temperate latitudes is still considered a true summer.

The winter months (December, January, February) in this region of the Philippines are characterised by mild and pleasant weather. There is no exhausting heat at this time, and average figures hold at the level of 26.7°C — 27.2°C, which is ideal for long excursions around the islands. The summer period, conversely, feels hotter and more humid. Although the thermometer shows similar values (around 27.5°C), high humidity can intensify the sensation of heat.

A characteristic feature of the temperature regime in El Nido is the absence of sharp drops between day and night. The difference between average minimum and maximum figures is small — usually constituting about 2-3 degrees. Even on the coolest nights, the temperature rarely drops below 25.5°C. This means you are unlikely to need warm clothes on your trip, and the evenings will be just as warm and cosy as the days.

Precipitation

Precipitation in El Nido is distributed unevenly throughout the year, clearly delineating the dry and wet seasons. The driest period, most favourable for beach holidays, falls at the beginning of the year: from January to April. February is distinguished by a minimal volume of precipitation (only about 1 mm), while March delights travellers with the highest number of sunny days, when rains occur on average only 7 times a month.

From May, the weather begins to change, marking the arrival of the wet season. The number of rainy days rises sharply from 22 in May to 29 in July and October, making the middle of the year the wettest period. July also leads in the total volume of falling moisture. At this time, it rains very often, almost daily, which is typical for the tropical climate of the Philippines.

Towards the end of the year, in November and December, the intensity of precipitation subsides slightly, but humidity remains high: it can rain for more than 20 days a month. Travellers should take into account that even in the rainy season, the precipitation here is warm, but its high frequency in summer and autumn may require adjustments to plans for excursions and sea trips.

What to Pack

When packing for El Nido, keep in mind that a warm tropical climate prevails here all year round with an average air temperature of about 27–28°C. The basis of your luggage should be light summer clothing made of natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Be sure to take several sets of swimwear, shorts, T-shirts, and a wide-brimmed hat for protection against the active sun. Sunscreen with a high SPF factor and quality sunglasses are indispensable accessories in any weather.

If your trip falls during the rainy season (predominantly from June to October, when the number of wet days reaches its maximum), do not forget to put a light raincoat or waterproof poncho in your suitcase. An umbrella is useful for walks around the town, but a raincoat will be much more practical on boat excursions. Given the high humidity and possible rainfall, it is also useful to have a dry bag to protect electronics, documents, and dry spare clothes from water and splashes during sea tours.

Pay special attention to footwear: comfortable flip-flops or sandals are suitable for the beach and town, while for exploring lagoons and islands, it is strongly recommended to take special aqua shoes (reef shoes). They will protect your feet from sharp rocks and corals when entering the water. Since evenings in El Nido remain very warm (about 26°C), you are unlikely to need warm clothing, although a light long-sleeved shirt may come in handy for protection against insects or the evening breeze.
