The Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral, officially known as the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Candles, is the majestic heart of the spiritual life of Iloilo City. Located in the colorful Jaro district, this temple is one of the most important religious and historical landmarks representing the Philippines on the global tourism stage.

The cathedral's architecture is built in the Romanesque Revival style with harmonious infusions of Gothic and Baroque elements. Its facade features a unique characteristic: an open balcony with an external staircase where the miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary is installed. Another striking feature is the detached bell tower, located across the street from the main building, which once allowed it to serve as a watchtower during the Spanish era.
This cathedral is not just a place of prayer, but a true symbol of resilience, having survived earthquakes and reconstructions. As the seat of the Archdiocese of Jaro, it attracts thousands of pilgrims wishing to touch the shrine of Our Lady of Candelaria, the patroness of all the Western Visayas islands.
