In the heart of the historic district that the Philippines is so proud of lies the famous Jaro Plaza. More than just an urban park, it is a living embodiment of colonial history and a cultural hub for the city of Iloilo. Officially known as Graciano Lopez Jaena Park, it was designed in the early 20th century and has since remained one of the most beautiful public spaces on Panay Island.

The main architectural centerpiece is the impressive 29-meter standalone bell tower — the Jaro Belfry. The plaza is surrounded by grand monuments dedicated to prominent figures in Filipino history, including memorials honoring historical veterans and the heroine Patrocinio Gamboa. Directly opposite is the famous Jaro Cathedral, making this area a key stop on any tourist itinerary.
Thanks to a recent and thorough restoration, the park has regained its former glory: elegant arches, well-kept hedges, and cozy retro-style benches have returned. Jaro Plaza is recognized as a cultural heritage site, where every stone serves as a reminder of the region's rich past, and the atmosphere invites leisurely walks under the shade of ancient trees.
