General Weather Character

The climate of Jazan can be described as hot desert, but with a significant influence from its coastal location by the Red Sea. Summer reigns here practically year-round, and the weather remains consistently warm, and often hot. For tourists, this means that even during the winter months, one can enjoy comfortable temperatures that rarely drop below +23°C even at night.

Seasonal differences are expressed not so much by a change in weather, but by the intensity of the heat. Summer (from May to September) is sweltering here, with average temperatures around +32°C...+33°C and peak values up to +36°C. Winter is the region's "prime season": from December to February, the air warms up to an average of +26°C, creating ideal conditions for walks and getting to know the city without extreme heat.

Precipitation in Jazan is an extremely rare and scarce phenomenon. For most of the year, there is practically no rain, and the amount of precipitation tends toward zero. A small probability of cloudy days increases only in October and November, but even then, these are short-term episodes rather than prolonged rains. Thanks to such stability, travellers can confidently plan trips, counting on clear skies and plenty of sun in any month.

Temperature

The climate in Jazan is distinguished by enviable stability and high temperatures throughout the year, making this region a place of eternal summer. Even in the nominal winter season, which falls in December and January, the weather remains very warm and comfortable. The coolest month is considered to be January with an average temperature of about 25.7°C. At this time, daytime highs reach a pleasant 28°C, and nights bring only a slight freshness, as the thermometer rarely drops below 23°C. This is the perfect time for those who want to avoid the exhausting heat.

The summer period is characterized by consistently high heat, peaking in June, when the average temperature is 33.2°C, and daytime highs regularly exceed the 36°C mark. A notable feature of Jazan's temperature regime is the very small amplitude of fluctuations between day and night. In summer, for example, even at night the air remains warmed up to 30°C, so there is practically no customary nocturnal coolness here.

The transitional seasons, spring and autumn, pass smoothly. Already in April, the average temperature crosses the 30°C threshold, and September is practically on par with the summer months in its indicators, holding average values around 33°C. Only by November does the heat begin to gradually subside. Thanks to such a climate, it is never cold in Jazan, and travellers can count on warm weather regardless of the month chosen for the trip.

Precipitation

Jazan is characterized by an exceptionally arid climate, so significant precipitation here is a great rarity. For most of the year, rains are practically absent, and the volume of falling moisture often tends to zero. Travellers can safely plan walks and excursions along the coast without fearing prolonged downpours or serious bad weather.

Analysis of weather data shows that the driest month is June, when the probability of precipitation is minimal. A slight increase in the number of so-called "wet days" is observed at the end of summer and in the autumn-winter season: in August, as well as in the period from October to December, an average of 5 to 6 days are recorded when precipitation is possible.

However, even during these periods, the rains are rather nominal in nature. The average precipitation level rarely exceeds 1 mm, which most often means only a light drizzle or brief drops that quickly evaporate under the hot sun of Saudi Arabia. Thus, an umbrella is unlikely to be useful to you on a trip to Jazan.

What to Pack

Since a hot climate reigns in Jazan all year round, the basis of your wardrobe should be items made of light, natural fabrics, such as cotton and linen. Even in the "coldest" months — January and February — the temperature rarely drops below +23°C, so you definitely won't need warm jackets and sweaters. Give preference to loose-fitting light-coloured clothing, which will protect the body from overheating and ensure good air circulation, which is especially important in the summer heat when the thermometer exceeds +33°C.

Precipitation in the region falls extremely rarely and in insignificant quantities; however, in the period from August to December, rare wet days are possible. An umbrella is unlikely to become a necessity, but a light cover-up might come in handy, especially if you plan walks by the Red Sea coast, where humidity is usually higher. Considering the local cultural traditions of Saudi Arabia and the intense sun, it is recommended to choose clothes that cover shoulders and knees; long sleeves will also be excellent protection against sunburn.

Pay special attention to accessories and skin protection. Sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and cream with a high SPF factor are mandatory in any season. For long walks around the city and the waterfront, take comfortable, breathable shoes — light sneakers or sandals with reliable foot support are ideal. It is also useful to always have a bottle of water with you to maintain water balance in conditions of constant heat.
