Imagine a rugged stone fort rising above the azure waters of the Atlantic — this is how the Castle of San Gabriel (Castillo de San Gabriel) greets its guests. This historic fortress, located in the city of Arrecife on the island of Lanzarote, is one of the most significant monuments preserving the memory of brave seafarers and pirate raids in Spain.
The main architectural highlight of the castle is the unique Puente de las Bolas drawbridge, decorated with stone spheres. It is the only example of its kind of engineering on all the Canary Islands. The castle is connected to the mainland by two causeways, creating a picturesque walking route directly over the ocean waves.

Today, within the powerful walls built in the defensive architectural style of the 16th–18th centuries, you will find the History Museum. The exposition is dedicated to the evolution of the city and the island of Lanzarote, offering visitors a glimpse into the life and culture of the local people through the prism of the centuries. It is a place where history comes to life against a backdrop of breathtaking seascapes.
