This region is famous for its incredible biodiversity, with more than 774 species of marine flora and fauna recorded. Crystalline Atlantic waters with visibility of up to 30 meters allow you to see Gerardia coral colonies, majestic rays, and even rare angel sharks in great detail. In its 15 years of operation, the dive center has earned a reputation as a place where safety and professionalism are combined with a cozy atmosphere and a love for the ocean.

The underwater landscapes are just as impressive as those on the surface: solidified lava flows have formed intricate tunnels, deep caves, and majestic arches. Thanks to the absence of mass tourism, nature here has preserved its wild, primal appearance, making every dive a truly exclusive experience.

What to Do

The main reason travelers come here is the opportunity to explore the top dive sites of the Canary Islands. Beginners are offered an "ocean baptism" in the shallow waters of the Acuario site, where they can take their first breaths underwater among vibrant parrotfish. Experienced divers can look forward to more serious challenges, such as the Lava Tunnel—a passage formed by ancient lava—or the deep Cueva del Legionario cave.

During your dives, you are likely to encounter schools of sargo, large groupers, and curious trumpetfish. A particular highlight is the Anchor Pier, where ancient anchors rest on the seabed, overgrown with anemones and serving as a home for bull rays. Visibility in these waters often exceeds 30 meters, and the water temperature ranges from a comfortable 17 to 24°C depending on the season.

In addition to the dives themselves, the center offers full PADI training—from entry-level to advanced specialties. Between dives, it's pleasant to relax on the center's terrace, discussing what you've seen with the instructors, or go for a bike ride around the island to complement your underwater impressions with views of the endless ocean horizons.

Getting There

The journey to the dive center begins on the island of Lanzarote. Most tourists arrive at Arrecife Airport (ACE), from where you can reach the northern port of Órzola by taxi or public bus (the trip takes about an hour). Ferries operated by Líneas Romero or Biosfera Express run regularly from Órzola. The boat trip to the island of La Graciosa takes only 20–30 minutes.

The Buceo La Graciosa Divers center is conveniently located right in the port of Caleta de Sebo at Av. Virgen del Mar, nº 119, B. Since there are virtually no paved roads on the island and private cars are prohibited, you can easily reach the base from the ferry pier on foot in just a few minutes.

For maximum comfort, you can pre-book a transfer through the dive center itself. In this case, you will be met at the airport, helped with ferry tickets, and your luggage will be delivered directly to the office door. If you plan to visit during high season (summer or holidays), it is recommended to book ferry seats in advance.

History & Facts

The underwater world around the island of La Graciosa is a living history of the Earth. The modern appearance of these depths was formed by powerful volcanic eruptions approximately 30,000 years ago. It was then that the whimsical lava tunnels and caves were created, which today attract explorers from all over the world.

A landmark event occurred in 1995: the territory around the island and its neighboring islets was declared the Chinijo Archipelago Marine Reserve. It is the largest protected marine area in Europe, spanning 70,000 hectares. The ban on industrial fishing has allowed the ecosystem to recover, turning the region into a unique biosphere reserve with hundreds of species of flora and fauna.

Even the names of the dive sites carry historical flair. For instance, the popular spot Anchor Pier got its name from the ancient wrought-iron anchors left here by merchant and pirate ships of past centuries. By diving here, explorers literally touch the era of great navigators and pirate raids that once shook these shores of Spain.

Time Needed

To enjoy a single dive, including the briefing, gear preparation, and boat trip, you should allow at least 3–6 hours. If you plan to take a PADI certification course (such as Open Water Diver), be prepared to dedicate 2 to 4 days to intensive training.

For experienced divers wishing to explore the reserve's most interesting sites, such as the Lava Tunnel or Cueva de los Jureles, an optimal stay on the island would be 2–3 days. This will allow for several morning outings while still leaving time to relax on the pristine beaches of La Graciosa.

Working Hours

The dive center on La Graciosa is open daily, adjusting to daylight hours and ocean tides. Typically, the office is open to visitors from 08:30 AM to 3:00 PM, though on some days (such as Wednesdays), the center stays open until 5:00 PM. Boat trips to dive sites are most often scheduled for the morning hours—from 09:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Since the boat schedule depends heavily on weather conditions and the number of participants, it is recommended to book your dives in advance. You can always check the current schedule and availability on the official website or by phone before your visit.
