How to get to Koggala

The fastest way to reach the resort is by air, as the town is served by the small Koggala Airport (KCT). It accommodates domestic flights and charters, allowing you to significantly reduce travel time compared to ground transport while enjoying aerial views of the island.

You may also consider flying to nearby aviation hubs in the city of Dickwella or Hambantota. These airports are located relatively close by, and the transfer from them to the coast does not take much time.

A train journey is an excellent opportunity to enjoy ocean views, as the railway line runs along the very edge of the coast. Koggala has its own station, served by trains on the popular Colombo — Matara route.

If the direct train schedule does not suit your plans, a convenient alternative is to travel to major stations in neighbouring towns, such as Dickwella. From there, you can quickly and affordably reach your destination by tuk-tuk or taxi.

Bus services connect the resort with many cities on the island, offering the most budget-friendly transport option. A trip from neighbouring Dickwella (about 58 km) usually takes around 4 hours due to heavy traffic and frequent stops. Travellers from Hambantota should expect to spend approximately 6 hours on the road.

For those travelling from further afield, such as the mountainous Hatton, the journey will be long and take more than 9 hours. Despite the duration, buses allow you to observe the authentic life of the country from your window.

Travelling by private car or taxi is the most comfortable way to reach your hotel without unnecessary transfers or waiting times. The drive from Dickwella (about 49 km) will take just 1 hour 10 minutes. The route from Hambantota, covering 116 km, will require about 1.5 hours.

If you are departing from distant Hatton, expect to spend approximately 5 hours behind the wheel. This is a wonderful chance to witness the changing landscapes, from mountainous tea plantations to the tropical coast.
