What to Do

In this park, everyone will find something to their liking, from active movement to contemplative rest. You can go for a walk along the winding trails, admiring the collection of sculptures harmoniously integrated into the landscape, or simply sit on a bench by the Helge å River and watch the water flow.

For fans of traditional European leisure, there are spacious lawns perfect for picnics. During the summer season, the park is transformed: open-air concerts are frequently held here, and the famous Art Nouveau theater hosts performances that fill the alleys with music and applause.

Photographers will appreciate the play of light in the crowns of ancient trees and the architectural details of the theater's facades, which provide a beautiful backdrop for shots at any time of year.

Getting There

Getting to the park is easy, as it is located in the immediate vicinity of the historical center. If you are at the main square, Stora Torg, a walk in a southerly direction will take you no more than 10–15 minutes.

For those arriving in the city by public transport, the central station serves as a landmark. From there, the park entrance is just a few minutes' walk away at the Tivolibadsgatan address. You can also use a local taxi, although a stroll within the city center is much more pleasant.

History & Facts

The history of this green oasis is inextricably linked to the development of the city itself. Kristianstad was founded in 1614 by King Christian IV of Denmark as a powerful fortress, and for a long time, its territory was confined by defensive ramparts.

In the mid-19th century, when the military significance of the fortifications diminished, they began to be demolished. Wide Parisian-style boulevards and public gardens started to appear in the cleared spaces. It was then, at the end of the 19th century, that Tivoli Park was created, designed as a classic English park with winding paths and free-form landscape features.

The true architectural gem of the park is the theater, erected at the beginning of the 20th century. Its creator, architect Axel Anderberg, is famous for designing the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, which gives the intimate theater in Kristianstad a special status and historical value.

Time Needed

For a leisurely stroll through the main alleys, relaxing by the water, and viewing the theater building, 1–2 hours is usually sufficient. This is enough time to enjoy the tranquility and take beautiful photos against the backdrop of century-old beeches.

If you plan to have a picnic on one of the lawns or attend a cultural event at the theater, it is worth setting aside about 3 hours for your visit. The park is ideal for taking a break during a busy day of sightseeing.

Working Hours

Tivoli Park is a public space and is open to visitors 24/7. This allows you to enjoy a morning walk in the mist over the river or see the evening illumination of the theater.

Admission to the park grounds is free; however, please note that events at the theater or summer concerts follow a separate schedule and may require ticket purchases.
