One of the most popular routes is the journey from Mwanza, which often passes in transit through Geita; covering a distance of about 400 kilometres along the road skirting the lake takes on average from 9 to 11 hours. There is also a convenient international connection with Uganda, from where scheduled buses depart from Entebbe. This trip, spanning around 300 kilometres, usually lasts about 6–8 hours, including the time needed for border formalities in Mutukula. For trips within the country, the route from Geita is often chosen: a road length of about 300 kilometres typically takes just over 4 hours. A longer but rich route runs from Mwanza—this is 422 kilometres of road skirting the bay of the lake, requiring approximately 6.5 hours behind the wheel; when booking an intercity taxi, be prepared for a cost starting from 100–150 USD and ensure you agree on a fixed fare before departure.
