Interesting Facts
In addition to its picturesque views and lively atmosphere, Kaş hides many surprising stories and little-known details. This charming town on the Turquoise Coast can surprise even seasoned travelers:
Kaş stands on the site of the ancient Lycian city of Antiphellos, and its heritage is literally built into the modern landscape. For example, the famous Lycian Rock Tombs and the monumental King's Tomb (also known as the Lion Tomb) are located right among residential houses and busy streets, rather than in an isolated archaeological park as is often the case.
The Greek island of Kastellorizo (Meis in Turkish) is located so close to Kaş that the distance between them is only about 6-7 kilometers. In clear weather, it can not only be seen perfectly from the Kaş waterfront, but according to local stories, you can sometimes catch Greek radio signals or even mobile network signals. This is one of the closest points of contact between Turkey and Greece.
Kaş is the recognized capital of diving in the Turkish Mediterranean. In addition to rich marine fauna and underwater caves, you can explore several interesting sunken objects here, including a well-preserved Italian "Savoia-Marchetti SM79" bomber from World War II and the remains of an ancient cargo ship.
The city and its surroundings are famous for their almond groves. Every year in late winter or early spring (usually February), when the hillsides are covered with a delicate pink carpet of blooming almond trees, Kaş hosts the Almond Blossom Festival, attracting many tourists and photographers wishing to capture this amazing natural phenomenon.

How to Get There
Since Kaş is a small and cozy town, it does not have its own airport. A journey here usually begins with a flight to one of the neighboring large cities, from where you can continue along the picturesque coastal roads. You can find out more about how to get to Kaş by studying all available routes and types of transport.
The most convenient option for most tourists is Dalaman Airport (DLM). It is located in the city of Muğla, approximately 95 km from Kaş. This is the nearest international aviation hub, handling many flights during the tourist season. A trip from here by taxi or pre-booked transfer takes about 2–2.5 hours, while an intercity bus takes a bit longer. The road is not too tiring and allows you to reach your destination fairly quickly.
The second popular method is flying into Antalya Airport (AYT). This is the largest transport hub in the region, located in the city of Antalya, approximately 130 km from Kaş (as the crow flies, but the winding highway makes the path longer). A huge number of scheduled and charter flights from all over the world land here. The journey from Antalya to Kaş takes about 3.5–4 hours by car or bus, but it passes along the incredibly beautiful D400 highway along the sea, which is an adventure in itself.
It is also worth mentioning Rhodes Airport (RHO), located on the Greek island of Rhodes, approximately 141 km from Kaş. This option is suitable for those who have a Schengen visa and wish to combine a visit to two countries, reaching Turkey by ferry via the island of Kastellorizo (Meis), which is located directly opposite Kaş.
For clarity, here is summary information on the main airports:
Railway communication is not developed in this region of Turkey, and in the city of Kaş itself, as well as its immediate surroundings, there are no train stations. The mountainous terrain of the Lycian coast makes laying tracks difficult. Therefore, it is impossible to get here by train.
The main land transport options remain buses and cars. Comfortable intercity buses regularly run to Kaş from all major cities in the country, including Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara. If you prefer freedom of movement, renting a car at the arrival airport is an excellent solution, allowing you to explore picturesque bays and ancient ruins on the way to the resort.
Main Attractions
Kaş is rich in historical and natural attractions that will enchant any traveler. Here are just a few that should definitely be included in your itinerary:
One of the main historical jewels is the Ancient City of Antiphellos, upon the ruins of which modern Kaş was built. Here you can see a well-preserved Hellenistic theater, offering magnificent views of the sea and the Greek island of Kastellorizo. A stroll through Antiphellos allows you to touch antiquity while exploring the remains of ancient walls and structures scattered along the hillsides. This place is ideal for history buffs and those wanting to enjoy panoramic views.

The symbol of Kaş and the entire Lycian coast is undoubtedly the Lycian Rock Tombs. These impressive funerary structures, carved high into the cliffs above the town, date back to the 4th century BC. They resemble the facades of houses and temples, decorated with intricate carvings. The tombs look especially striking at sunset when the sun's rays paint the rocks in warm tones. Their view from afar already makes an indelible impression and is the calling card of the region.

Local Cuisine
The culinary scene in Kaş is a true reflection of its Mediterranean charm and proximity to the sea. The local cuisine will delight you with fresh ingredients, an abundance of seafood, aromatic herbs, and, of course, the famous Turkish hospitality. Simple but refined flavors are valued here, with high-quality products playing the lead role.
Be sure to try fresh-caught grilled fish—sea bass (levrek) or sea bream (çipura). Squid and octopus are no less popular. It is traditional to start a meal with a variety of meze—cold and hot appetizers. Among them, olive oil-based vegetable dishes (zeytinyağlılar), eggplant salads, pepper and nut pastes (muhammara), and yogurt dips stand out. Of course, you cannot miss classic lamb or chicken kebabs, as well as thin gözleme flatbreads with various fillings.
As for drinks, traditional Turkish tea (çay) is offered everywhere in Kaş and enjoyed at any time of day, along with aromatic Turkish coffee (Türk kahvesi). On a hot day, ayran—a yogurt-based drink—is perfectly refreshing. Among alcoholic beverages, rakı (an anise-flavored spirit) is popular and often accompanied by meze, as are local wines and beers like Efes. Freshly squeezed juices, especially pomegranate, are also in high demand.
The food culture in Kaş is diverse. Locals and tourists love dining in numerous restaurants overlooking the sea that serve the freshest seafood. Cozy meyhanes, such as Ehlikeyif Meyhane Kaş, specialize in meze and rakı, creating a special atmosphere for long, soulful gatherings. You can also find traditional lokantas with home-cooked Turkish food at affordable prices. Don't overlook street food—fresh simits (sesame rings) or grilled corn. Local markets offer an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Travel Tips
Welcome to sunny Kaş! To make your journey through this charming corner of Turkey as comfortable and memorable as possible, we have prepared some practical tips. They will help you find your way around better and enjoy every moment of your holiday.
Wardrobe for Kaş: what to bring for comfort and style.
Since Kaş has a Mediterranean climate, in summer (June-September) you will need light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics, swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen with a high SPF. For evening walks, a light sweater or pashmina might come in handy. In spring and autumn, consider adding jeans, a sweater, and a light jacket to this set. Comfortable shoes are a must-have for walking the cobbled streets of the old town and exploring the surroundings; sandals, espadrilles, or light sneakers will be ideal. Don't forget an adapter for electrical appliances (Turkey uses type F sockets).
Transport in Kaş: how to easily get around the town and surroundings.
The center of Kaş is quite compact and easily explored on foot. For trips to more distant beaches (such as Kaputaş) or neighboring villages, it is convenient to use local minibuses—dolmuşes. They run quite often and are inexpensive. Taxis are also available, but it is better to agree on the price in advance or make sure the driver has turned on the meter. Renting a car or scooter can be a good idea if you plan to actively explore the coast, but note that parking in the center of Kaş can be difficult, especially in high season.
Travel finances: Turkish Lira, cards, and tipping culture.
The official currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). You can exchange currency at banks or exchange offices (döviz bürosu). ATMs (bankamatik) are common and most accept international cards, though you should check cash withdrawal terms with your bank. Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops. However, for small purchases at markets or in tiny shops, it is better to have cash with you. Tipping in Turkey is welcomed: in restaurants, it is customary to leave 5-10% of the bill amount if service is not included. Small amounts can be left for hotel maids and porters.
Health and safety care: pharmacies, medical aid, and peaceful rest.Kaş is generally a safe and peaceful resort. Pharmacies (eczane) are easy to find by the green cross; many pharmacists speak English. In case of need for medical assistance, you can contact local health centers (sağlık ocağı) or private clinics. It is recommended to have travel insurance. Tap water is not recommended for drinking; it is better to buy bottled water. Don't forget sun protection, especially in the summer months, and drink plenty of fluids.
Communication and connectivity: staying in touch and understanding locals.
The official language is Turkish. In the tourist areas of Kaş, many people speak English, and less frequently, German or Russian. Learning a few simple phrases in Turkish (for example, "merhaba"—hello, "teşekkür ederim"—thank you) will be a pleasant gesture for the locals. Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, cafes, and restaurants. For constant internet access, you can purchase a local SIM card (e.g., Turkcell, Vodafone, Türk Telekom).
Local etiquette: respect for traditions and friendly communication.
Turkish people are very hospitable. When greeting someone, you can say "Merhaba" (hello). In shops and markets, haggling is common, but it should be done politely and with a smile. When visiting mosques (though there are few in Kaş itself and they are not primary tourist sites), women should cover their heads and shoulders, and men should wear trousers. In the resort zone of Kaş, manners are quite relaxed, but outside of it, especially in more conservative areas, it is better to dress more modestly.
Little "don'ts": what to avoid for a pleasant journey.
Try not to take photos of local residents without their permission, especially women in traditional clothing. Avoid public displays of severe intoxication—it is not approved of. Also, you should not criticize local customs, politics, or speak disrespectfully of Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, and state symbols.
Bonus tip for Kaş: morning walks and the Friday market.
To fully enjoy the atmosphere of the old town, go for a walk early in the morning, when the streets are not yet filled with tourists and the sun is not so hot. And if your visit falls on a Friday, be sure to drop by the local market (Cuma Pazarı), where you can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, textiles, and souvenirs, as well as observe colorful local life.
We hope these tips make your stay in Kaş even more pleasant and carefree. We wish you an unforgettable journey full of vivid impressions and warm memories of this amazing Turkish town!
Entertainment & Nightlife
When the sun sets over the horizon, painting the sky over Kaş in incredible colors, this charming town does not go to sleep; instead, it comes alive in a new way. The nightlife here is unlike that of noisy metropolises—it is more intimate and cozy, but no less exciting. Instead of giant clubs, you will find atmospheric bars, pubs with live music, and small dance floors where you can spend a great evening.
The main concentration of evening entertainment is in the center of Kaş, especially around the harbor area and on the winding streets of the old town, such as İbrahim Serin Caddesi and its surroundings. Here you will find many establishments for every taste: from quiet lounge bars where you can enjoy a cocktail to soft music, to more lively spots with dancing until late at night. The atmosphere in most places is relaxed and friendly, attracting both tourists and locals.
Among the popular spots for evening relaxation, several establishments stand out. For example, L'Apéro Kaş is known for its stylish setting and good music, often featuring DJs. It's a great place to dance and make new friends. Another iconic spot is the Oxygen Pub, which attracts fans of more energetic music and live performances. If you are looking for a calmer atmosphere, the bar at the Hideaway Hotel offers a cozy place for evening conversations with friends over a glass of wine or a signature cocktail.

Most bars and clubs in Kaş begin to come alive closer to 10:00–11:00 PM and stay open until 2:00–3:00 AM, with some staying open even later, especially during the peak season. There is generally no strict dress code; casual or smart-casual styles prevail—the main thing is that you feel comfortable. The crowd here is quite diverse, ranging from young people to middle-aged couples, all set for a pleasant time. Prices in Kaş's bars and clubs can be described as moderate, especially compared to large European resorts. A glass of local beer or wine will cost a reasonable amount, with cocktails being slightly more expensive.
Regarding practical advice, most nightlife venues in the center of Kaş are easily reachable on foot if you are staying nearby. If your hotel is on the outskirts, you can always use taxi services. It is recommended to clarify the fare in advance or ensure the meter is turned on. Kaş is considered a very safe city, and nighttime walks along the well-lit central streets usually do not cause concern. Nevertheless, it is always worth taking basic precautions, especially if you are returning late at night alone.

During the day, Kaş offers completely different activities: you can explore the ancient ruins of Antiphellos, admire the Lycian tombs, embark on a fascinating sea voyage to Kekova Island, or go diving in crystal-clear waters. But as evening falls, the city reveals its other, no less attractive side, offering guests the chance to plunge into an atmosphere of fun and carefreeness under the southern starry sky.
Parks & Museums
Kaş is not just ancient ruins and turquoise sea, but also a place where you can enjoy the tranquility of natural spots and dive deeper into local culture through its preserved heritage. Although Kaş is not famous for large city parks or numerous traditional museums in the classic sense, its charm lies in a unique combination of nature and history accessible to everyone.
Instead of extensive park zones, Kaş offers its guests the beauty of its coastline and cozy beaches, which serve as wonderful natural relaxation areas. One popular spot is the Kaş Municipality Public Beach (Kaş Belediyesi Halk Plajı). This is a well-equipped pebble beach, convenient for families, with clean water and necessary infrastructure, including sun loungers and cafes, making it attractive for a comfortable day by the sea.

For those looking for a more secluded atmosphere, Akçagerme Beach is a great fit. Located a bit away from the center, this beach attracts visitors with its scenic beauty, calm sea, and gentle entry into the water, which is particularly valued by families with children. Another gem is Küçük Çakıl Beach (Little Pebble). It is a small but very cozy pebble beach right within the city limits, known for its cool freshwater springs that mix with the seawater, creating an especially refreshing effect on a hot day.
The cultural heritage of Kaş is represented not so much by traditional museums with exhibits behind glass, but by the city itself, which is a kind of open-air museum. The main "exhibits" here are undoubtedly the remains of the Ancient City of Antiphellos. A walk through its ruins, including the ancient theater with a stunning view of the sea, allows you to literally touch centuries of history.
An integral part of the historical landscape of Kaş are the famous Lycian Rock Tombs, majestically carved into the cliffs above the city, and, of course, the monumental King's Tomb, located right in the center. These impressive monuments of the Lycian civilization are evidence of the region's rich past and attract everyone interested in ancient history and architecture.
Among the more modern architectural and cultural attractions, it is worth noting the Kaş Central Mosque (Kaş Merkez Cami). This is an active mosque and an important cultural and religious center for the local community. Its architecture, combining modern and traditional elements, is of interest to those who want to get acquainted with the culture of modern Turkey.
For a more authentic immersion into the atmosphere of Kaş, try exploring not only the popular beaches but also the small, hidden coves along the coast that can be reached on foot or by rented boat—this will give you a sense of discovery. And to avoid the influx of tourists at historical sites like the ancient theater or tombs, try to visit them early in the morning. At this time, you can enjoy their grandeur in relative silence and take beautiful photos as a memory of your trip to Kaş.
Getting Around
Getting around Kaş and its immediate surroundings is quite simple, although the town does not boast an extensive metro or tram system like large metropolises. The main way to get around, besides walking through the compact center, is by local minibuses known as dolmuşes, as well as regular taxis.
Dolmuşes are the most popular and budget-friendly form of transport in Kaş. These minibuses run on specific routes, connecting the town center with popular beaches (e.g., Kaputaş, Patara), neighboring villages, and the Çukurbağ Peninsula. Dolmuş stops are usually marked, but you can often stop a minibus simply by waving your hand on the road. Payment is made in cash directly to the driver upon entry or exit; fares are low and depend on the distance. Dolmuş schedules are flexible; they run quite frequently during the day, especially in the tourist season, but their frequency decreases in the evening.
Taxis in Kaş are easy to find at special ranks in the city center, near the bus station, or by calling one from your hotel. This is a more expensive but also more comfortable way to travel, especially if you are traveling with luggage or late at night. It is recommended to always clarify the approximate cost of the trip in advance or ensure the driver turns on the meter (though in resort areas, a fixed price to popular destinations is more commonly practiced).
As for the payment system, you will need cash Turkish Lira for the dolmuşes. There are no special transit cards or apps for public transport provided in Kaş. Tickets as such are not issued in dolmuşes—payment is direct. Public transport hours are mainly daytime and early evening; at night, taxis remain the primary option.
Among alternative methods of transport, renting scooters or cars is worth noting. This is an excellent option if you plan to actively explore the coast and more distant attractions. Rental offices can be found in the city center. Bicycle rental is less common but also possible for short trips. Don't forget about sea trips: boats and launches regularly depart from Kaş harbor to Kekova Island, the Greek island of Kastellorizo (Meis), or picturesque bays—this is a type of water transport for excursion purposes.
Practical tip for tourists: if you plan on taking a dolmuş, have small bills ready for ease of payment. Check with the driver or locals for the final destination of the route to ensure you are going in the right direction. The center of Kaş itself is very conducive to walking, allowing you to enjoy its charming streets and atmosphere.
Accommodation
In Kaş, you will find a wide range of accommodation options capable of satisfying the requests of all kinds of travelers. Everything is here: from cozy family pensions and budget hostels, ideal for backpackers, to comfortable mid-range boutique hotels, apart-hotels, and luxury villas with private pools. Apartment rentals are also popular, which is especially convenient for families or groups of friends planning a longer stay.
Most hotels and pensions are concentrated in the center of Kaş, providing easy access to major attractions, restaurants, shops, and the waterfront. This area is especially convenient for those who want to be in the heart of the action. For a more secluded and quiet holiday, many choose to stay on the Çukurbağ Peninsula (Çukurbağ Yarımadası), where villas and boutique hotels with stunning sea views are located. From here, the city center is easily accessible by dolmuş or taxi.
Among the many options, you can find small, authentic guesthouses as well as larger complexes. For example, for those looking for a comfortable resort-style stay, Can Mocamp might be suitable, offering guests various amenities. Many hotels in Kaş are characterized by a personal touch and hospitality, creating a unique atmosphere.

These nearby destinations offer a glimpse into the diverse culture and landscapes of the region. For example, Fethiye, located just 69 km away, attracts visitors with its famous beaches like Ölüdeniz and ancient Lycian tombs. Larger Antalya, 123 km away, offers a mix of historical attractions in the Kaleiçi old town, modern shopping malls, and picturesque waterfalls. A trip to Marmaris (143 km) will allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a lively resort with its marina and active nightlife. Each of these places has its own unique charm and is worth a visit to expand your impressions of your holiday in Turkey.
Shopping & Souvenirs
Shopping in Kaş is not a hunt for global brands in huge malls, but rather a pleasant adventure through charming streets where every little shop holds its own treasures. The town is famous for its small boutiques, craft workshops, and souvenir shops offering authentic Turkish goods. Here you will find unique handmade items, high-quality textiles, original jewelry, and delicious local delicacies. Shopping in Kaş is an opportunity to take a leisurely stroll, enjoy the town's atmosphere, and bring home something truly special.
The main shopping life of Kaş is concentrated in its historic center, around the harbor and the adjacent narrow streets. One of the main arteries for shopping enthusiasts is Uzun Çarşı (Long Bazaar) street and its surrounding alleys. Here, in the Center of Kaş, you will find many shops offering everything from clothing and accessories to ceramics and spices. A walk through these colorful places is a pleasure in itself, even if you don't plan on making large purchases.

In Kaş, you will not find the large modern shopping centers that residents of metropolises are used to. The charm of shopping here lies precisely in the intimacy and uniqueness of small private shops and stalls. Instead of faceless malls, Kaş offers the atmosphere of a traditional Turkish bazaar scattered through the cozy streets of the old town.
A must-visit for many tourists is the Friday Market (Cuma Pazarı). This is a real kaleidoscope of colors, aromas, and sounds. Here, local farmers sell the freshest fruits, vegetables, olives, cheeses, and honey. You can also find inexpensive textiles, clothing, shoes, household items, and, of course, a variety of souvenirs at the market. It is an excellent place to experience local flavor, haggle, and buy something as a memory or a gift.
You can bring back many interesting and authentic souvenirs from Kaş. Pay attention to handmade ceramics—plates, cups, and vases with traditional patterns. Turkish textiles are very popular: high-quality cotton towels (peshtemal), tablecloths, bed linens, as well as silk scarves and wraps. Jewelry lovers will appreciate silver items, often with natural stones or in an ethnic style. Of course, don't forget Turkish sweets (lokum, baklava, halva), aromatic spices, olive oil and oil-based soaps, as well as the famous evil eye amulets—Nazar Boncuğu.
Most shops in the tourist zone of Kaş work daily, especially during the high season (from May to October). They are usually open from around 10:00 AM until late in the evening, often until 10:00–11:00 PM, and some souvenir shops may stay open even longer. Outside of the season, working hours may be reduced. Regarding payment, most shops and boutiques accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard). However, in markets and small stalls, cash Turkish Lira (TRY) is preferred. ATMs are available in Kaş, so withdrawing cash is easy.
Tourists who are not residents of Turkey can take advantage of the Value Added Tax refund (Tax Free) system when purchasing goods for a certain amount at participating shops. Look for the corresponding "Tax Free Shopping" sign in windows or ask the sellers. To process the refund, you will need to fill out a special form in the store and present it along with receipts and the goods at customs when leaving the country. This is a good opportunity to save a bit on larger purchases.
