If you have decided to travel to Kasese for unforgettable adventures and safaris, you will need to choose the most convenient route from several available options. When planning how to reach the destination, travellers can utilise local airlines, intercity buses, or set off by car, enjoying the scenic African landscapes.

The fastest and most picturesque way to reach the location is by air. Travellers are welcomed by Kasese Airport (KSE), located very close to the city. Despite its modest size, this air hub serves as an important transport node for tourists exploring the western part of Uganda.

Alternatively, one can consider a flight to neighbouring Kihihi, which is approximately 110 kilometres away; however, a direct flight to Kasese will save you considerable time. The airport is conveniently connected to main locations, so after landing, you can quickly reach your hotel or the starting point of your safari itinerary.

Reaching Kasese by train is currently not possible. Although a historic railway line leading to this western region exists, it has long ceased to be used for regular passenger transport. The station does not accept tourist trains, so one should not rely on this mode of transport when planning the route.

Since the railway connection is not developed here, travellers across Uganda are recommended to choose alternative options. The most convenient and reliable ways to get to the city remain travelling by car or flying via domestic airlines, which allows you to reach the departure point for safaris or mountain trekking in comfort.

Bus services connect this region with the country's key cities, making the trip accessible and interesting. The most popular route leads from Kampala: regular buses depart from the capital's terminals and cover the journey to Kasese in about 6–7 hours. This is an excellent opportunity to observe the changing landscapes, from bustling city streets to tranquil rural views and tea plantations.

It is also convenient to travel via Fort Portal, which is considered an important transit point in western Uganda. The road from here takes very little time and delights travellers with impressive views of the foothills of the Mountains of the Moon. When choosing a bus, be prepared for the local experience: the transport may be quite simple, but this is compensated by the low fare and the authentic atmosphere of an African journey.

Travelling by car across the western part of Uganda is an excellent opportunity to enjoy views of national parks and mountain landscapes on the way to your destination. The fastest route runs from the town of Kihihi: the distance of 131 kilometres can be covered in approximately 3 hours, whereas a trip from Kisoro will take about 5.5 hours, during which you will drive 295 kilometres of scenic African roads.

There is also a route option from the city of Goma, located in the neighbouring DR Congo; the 262-kilometre road will take almost 7 hours due to local traffic conditions. If you do not plan to drive yourself, you can use intercity taxi services, but it is best to agree on the price in advance before the trip to Kasese, as fixed meters are usually not available here.

However, if you plan excursions to the Rwenzori Mountains or morning safaris, be sure to bring a fleece jacket, a windbreaker, and comfortable trekking boots, as the weather can be changeable.
2. Transport within the city. The most common and accessible way to get around is by motorcycle taxis, known here as "boda-bodas". It is a fast option, but always request a helmet from the driver and agree on the trip price beforehand, before you get on the motorcycle.
3. Financial Matters. The national currency is the Ugandan Shilling. Although major lodges may accept cards, cash rules in the city. Exchange money at official exchange bureaus or banks. An important detail: if you are carrying US dollars, the notes must be new (issued after 2013); older banknotes are often not accepted here.
4. Health and Hygiene. It is strongly advised not to drink tap water—use only bottled water, even for brushing your teeth. Do not forget to bring high-quality repellents and use them in the evenings for protection against insects.
5. Language and Communication. English is the official language of the country, so you will be easily understood in hotels, restaurants, and shops. Locals are very welcoming, and knowing a couple of phrases, like a greeting, will help you establish a connection faster.
6. Etiquette Rules. Ugandans highly value politeness and a leisurely pace. Upon meeting, it is customary to shake hands and ask about the other person's well-being before moving on to the matter at hand. Photographing people is allowed only with their personal permission.
7. What to Avoid. Do not walk alone on unlit streets after dark and do not leave valuables unattended. Also, refrain from buying food from street vendors unless it has undergone thermal processing in front of you.
8. Gastronomic Advice. Be sure to try the local street food called "Rolex". This has nothing to do with watches: the dish consists of an omelette with vegetables wrapped in a chapati flatbread. It is filling, delicious, and generally safe for tourists.
