The story of Idle Hands Craft Ales began in 2010 with the dream of Christopher Tkach, who traded his career as a software developer for brewing vats. His inspiration came from a visit to a small brewery in Maine, which proved that success is possible even without massive industrial capacity.

The first steps were taken in a warehouse space in Everett. Interestingly, Christopher built his first brewing system literally piece by piece, ordering parts from eBay and Craigslist. It was the embodiment of the true craft spirit—manual labor and attention to every detail.

In 2015, due to large-scale casino construction, the brewery had to find a new home. After a temporary stint at a fellow brewery's facility, Idle Hands opened in Malden in July 2016. The new space on Commercial Street was three times larger than the previous one, allowing for a significant expansion of their lineup and production volume.

Despite its growing popularity, the establishment remains a family business. The Tkaches continue to manage all processes themselves, maintaining the independence and unique character of their products, which are rightfully considered some of the best in the region.
