What to Do

The main adventure within the school walls is the "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" attraction. This unique ride-show uses robotic arms to take you on a flight over the castle, where you will encounter Dementors in the Forbidden Forest and even take part in a Quidditch match. The queue to the ride itself passes through galleries with talking paintings and classrooms, making it a thrilling tour in its own right.

After leaving the castle, be sure to visit Hogsmeade Village. Here, you can stop by Ollivanders wand shop, where the wand chooses the wizard, or try the famous Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks. For those with a sweet tooth, the doors of Honeydukes are open, selling Chocolate Frogs and the famous Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans with their most unpredictable tastes.

Don't miss the chance to ride the "Flight of the Hippogriff" family coaster, located near Hagrid’s hut, which offers stunning views of the surrounding area. If you have a ticket that allows you to visit both parks, head to Platform 9 ¾ to board the Hogwarts Express. In the evening, the castle is transformed by light projections, creating a truly magical end to your day.

Getting There

The famous castle is located at 6000 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819, within the Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park. If you are traveling from Orlando International Airport (MCO), the most convenient way is to use a taxi or Uber/Lyft services — the trip takes about 20–30 minutes and costs approximately $40.

For those who prefer public transport, the Lynx bus network has routes serving Universal Blvd. After getting off the bus, you can walk to the entrance or use the free shuttle service provided by the resort's hotels. If you have rented a car, take the I-4 highway and follow the signs for Universal Orlando. Large-scale parking is available on-site, with rates ranging from $30 to $50 per day.

It is recommended to arrive by the time the park opens to secure a parking spot and avoid morning traffic. Remember that to travel between the two park areas (Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley) on the Hogwarts Express, you will need a Park-to-Park ticket.

History & Facts

The history of this grand structure began on May 31, 2007, when Universal Orlando announced a major partnership with Warner Bros. and the author of the saga, J.K. Rowling. The goal of the project was to create an incredibly detailed space covering 81,000 m², allowing fans to literally step onto the pages of their favorite books. Hogwarts Castle became the architectural centerpiece of the Hogsmeade area.

The official opening of "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" took place on June 16, 2010. Since then, the castle has been recognized as one of the most technically advanced attractions in the entertainment industry. During its construction, forced perspective techniques were used to make the building appear even more majestic and taller than it actually is, perfectly replicating the look of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the films.

The development of the location did not stop with the opening of the first phase. In 2014, the second phase of the project — Diagon Alley — was launched, turning the complex into a complete universe. Today, the castle remains not just a backdrop, but a living monument to pop culture, attracting millions of tourists to the USA annually and maintaining the highest popularity ratings among world landmarks.

Time Needed

To explore Hogwarts Castle itself without rushing, walk through its corridors, and ride the main attraction, you will need about 2–3 hours. However, considering the castle is part of the Hogsmeade area, it is better to set aside 4 to 6 hours to visit the entire location, including its shops and restaurants.

For those who want the full experience and plan to also visit Diagon Alley via the Hogwarts Express, it is worth dedicating an entire day (8–10 hours) to the journey. It is important to account for potential queues, which can be quite long during peak seasons, so using an Express Pass can help save a significant amount of time.

Working Hours

You can visit the school of witchcraft and wizardry daily. The standard operating hours for the Universal Orlando Resort complex to visit the castle and surrounding areas are as follows:

  • Monday — Sunday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Please note that the schedule may change depending on the season, public holidays, or special evening events. It is recommended to check the current schedule on the park's official website before your trip to plan your day as effectively as possible.
