Travelers should be prepared for the fact that even in the dry season, short-term rains are possible, which, however, are quickly replaced by the sun and merely refresh the tropical greenery of Vanuatu.

The climate on Tanna Island is distinguished by mildness and comfortable warmth throughout the year, yet seasonality is clearly traced here. The hottest period is the months from December to March, when the average air temperature is about +26°C. The peak heat usually falls in February: at this time during the day, the air warms up to +28.5°C. This is a classic tropical summer, which can feel quite humid and sultry, perfectly suitable for a beach holiday.

From June to September, a cooler season arrives in Vanuatu, which can conditionally be called winter. At this time, it becomes noticeably fresher, bringing relief after the wet season. The period from November to April can be characterized as the rainy season. The wettest months are January, February, and March: at this time, statistics record from 24 to 25 days with precipitation. This means that rains can occur almost daily, however, they often have the character of short-term tropical downpours, which are quickly replaced by the sun.

The drier season lasts from May to October and is considered the most comfortable time for a visit. The "driest" month is August, when the number of rainy days decreases to 10. June and July are also distinguished by relatively stable weather (about 11 days with precipitation), creating excellent conditions for exploring the volcano and relaxing on the coast of Vanuatu.

When preparing for a trip to Tanna Island, give preference to light and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Since the climate here is tropical, t-shirts, shorts, and summer dresses will be relevant all year round. Be sure to take swimwear, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat with you, as the sun in this region can be very active.

Given the high humidity and frequent rainfall, especially in the period from January to March (up to 25 rainy days per month), it is worth putting a light raincoat or a compact umbrella in your suitcase. In the "cool" season, from June to August, when the average temperature holds around 22°C, the principle of layering will come in handy: grab a light sweater, windbreaker, or hoodie for comfortable evening walks or in case of wind.
