The climate of Mare island can be characterised as mild tropical, strongly influenced by the ocean. Thanks to this, travelling to the island will be comfortable at almost any time of the year, whether for a beach holiday or exploring local natural beauties.

Throughout the year, the weather changes smoothly from a warmer and wetter season to a fresher and drier one. From December to March, the highest temperatures are observed, reaching an average of 26–27°C, although the number of rainy days is maximal during this period (up to 20–21 days per month). From June to September, the air becomes slightly cooler, cooling down to a pleasant 21–22°C, and precipitation falls much less frequently, giving way to clearer weather.

A feature of the local climate is its amazing stability: even in the "coldest" months, such as August, the temperature stays above 20°C. Tourists should take into account that rains can be frequent guests at the beginning of the year, but the rest of the time New Caledonia offers excellent conditions for those seeking a balance between warm sun and a refreshing sea breeze.

The climate on the island of Mare is distinguished by enviable stability and mildness, which makes it attractive to visit all year round. The hottest period here falls on the rainy season, which lasts from December to March. During these months, the average air temperature confidently holds at around +26°C, and in February, which is considered the warmest month, maximums can reach +27.6°C. The heat combined with high humidity creates an atmosphere of the real tropics, ideally suited for a beach holiday.

The "winter" season, arriving in the Southern Hemisphere from June to September, brings pleasant freshness but is never truly cold. At this time, the air cools to a comfortable +21...+22°C. The coolest month is usually August, when minimum temperatures can drop to +20.3°C. This time of year is characterised by drier weather, which is excellent for hiking and getting to know the island's natural beauties without exhausting heat.

It is worth noting that a very small amplitude of fluctuations between day and night temperatures is observed on Mare — the difference often amounts to just 1–2 degrees. Thanks to this, evenings here remain warm and cosy regardless of the season. Such an even temperature schedule saves travellers from the need to take a lot of warm clothing with them, allowing one to enjoy the mild climate of New Caledonia at any time of day.

Precipitation on the island of Mare is distributed throughout the year with noticeable seasonality, although the total volume of falling moisture remains relatively small. The wettest period falls on the warm months — from December to April. At this time, it rains quite often: for example, up to 21 rainy days are recorded in March, and about 20 in February. However, judging by the amount of precipitation, these are most often light, refreshing rains rather than powerful tropical downpours.

A drier season arrives in June and lasts until approximately September. During these months, the frequency of precipitation noticeably decreases. The driest month is July, when the sky is overcast for only about 6 days in the entire month. This time is considered the most stable for planning a beach holiday and walks around the island without the risk of getting wet.

In general, the climate of New Caledonia in this region is characterised by the absence of snow and the prevalence of liquid precipitation all year round. Even in the "dampest" months, rains are rarely prolonged, quickly giving way to sunny weather. Transitional periods, such as May and October, are characterised by a moderate frequency of rains — from 11 to 12 days per month.

When preparing for a trip to the island of Mare, orient yourself towards the mild tropical climate that reigns here all year round. The basis of your luggage should consist of light items made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen, which are ideally suited for daytime temperatures in the range of +24...+27°C. Since the island is famous for its picturesque bays, be sure to take swimwear, beach shoes (reef shoes) and reliable headgear for protection against the active sun.

The weather on Mare has its own seasonal features. In the period from January to March, the number of rainy days increases significantly, so a light raincoat or a compact umbrella will be very handy. From June to September, it becomes a little cooler (about +21°C), and a fresh ocean breeze may be felt in the evenings. For this time of year, we recommend using the principle of layering: grab a windbreaker, jeans, or a light hoodie to feel comfortable after sunset.

Do not forget comfortable walking shoes: trainers or trekking sandals will be needed for walks along the coral cliffs and paths of the island. Also, in any season, you will require sunscreen with a high SPF factor and high-quality sunglasses, as ultraviolet radiation in New Caledonia is quite intense even in cloudy weather.
