How to get to Baise

Getting There: Introduction

Planning a trip to Baise takes you to a picturesque and historically significant city in southern China, nestled amidst the lush green hills of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The question of how to get to Baise is easily solved thanks to well-developed infrastructure: you can fly here comfortably by plane, arrive by high-speed train, or utilise the network of roads and bus routes. Regardless of the chosen mode of transport, the journey to this colourful corner of Asia promises to be convenient and memorable.

By Plane

The fastest and most convenient way to reach your destination is by air. The city is served by Baise Airport (AEB), which receives regular flights from various regions of the country. Travellers have access to both direct flights and options with comfortable connections in major transport hubs.

If a direct flight from your point of departure is not available, you can plan a route through neighbouring major cities, for instance, via Nanning or Guangzhou, from where flights to the local airport operate. Upon arrival at the airport, tourists can easily reach the centre of Baise by taxi or a dedicated airport bus.

By Train

For enthusiasts of ground transport, excellent news is the availability of convenient railway connections in Baise. The city's station serves modern high-speed trains, allowing tourists to get here quickly and comfortably, bypassing long bus journeys.

Regular services connect the city with major transport hubs such as Nanning, Guangzhou, and Kunming. The route from Nanning is particularly popular: the journey on the high-speed express takes only about one and a half hours. Travelling by rail is not only a time-saver but also an opportunity to admire the scenic landscapes of southern China from the carriage window.

By Bus

A bus journey offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy the picturesque karst landscapes of Guangxi on the way to Baise. The most popular and regular route runs from the regional administrative centre, Nanning: comfortable express coaches cover the distance of 230 kilometres in approximately 3–4 hours along a modern highway.

For those planning a complex tour of the country's south, a convenient option would be a trip from the city of Hechi, which will also take about three and a half hours. Direct connections are also available from the scenic Libo county; this route, over 300 kilometres long, will require about 5 hours, but the views outside the window will more than compensate for the time on the road.

By Car

Travelling by car is a great way to explore the region at your own pace, enjoying views of karst mountains and green valleys on the way to Baise. The most comfortable and fastest route leads from Nanning: the distance of 230 kilometres along the G80 expressway usually takes about 3–3.5 hours. If you are setting off from the city of Hechi, the 260-kilometre road will require approximately 4 hours of time.

A longer but impressive drive awaits travellers from Libo: to cover 380 kilometres, you will have to spend about 5 hours on the road. For those who do not plan to rent a car, booking an intercity taxi is available; however, the cost of such a trip from neighbouring districts often exceeds 600–800 yuan, so it is better to agree on the price in advance.

Traveller Tips

Preparing for a trip to Baise requires attention to details characteristic of the southern regions of China. To ensure your journey is as comfortable as possible and free of surprises, we have compiled a list of the most important recommendations.

  1. Clothing and Seasonality. The climate here is subtropical, humid, and warm. In summer, opt for light, natural fabrics that dry quickly. Winters are mild, so a windbreaker or a thick hoodie is sufficient. Be sure to bring comfortable, non-slip footwear for long walks and a raincoat, as rainfall can be sudden.
  2. Transport Nuances. To move around the city, it is most convenient to use taxis or popular Chinese car-hailing apps (such as DiDi). Public transport is cheap, but route maps and stops are marked only in characters, which can complicate navigation without knowledge of the language.
  3. Money and Payment. Although cash yuan is accepted everywhere, modern China operates on a digital economy. It is strongly recommended to install Alipay or WeChat Pay apps and link your card to them before the trip. Standard international plastic cards rarely work in ordinary shops and cafes.
  4. Health and Hygiene. Never drink tap water—buy only bottled water. Given the abundance of greenery and humidity, it is worth carrying insect repellent for mosquitoes, as well as a basic first-aid kit with familiar medicines, as finding equivalents in local pharmacies can be difficult due to the language barrier.
  5. Language Barrier. Few people in Baise speak English; mostly only staff at major hotels. It is vital to download an offline translator on your smartphone with photo translation capabilities (for menus and signs) and voice input.
  6. Local Etiquette. Show respect to elders and maintain composure in public places—loud conversations are not always welcomed. At the table, do not stick chopsticks vertically into rice (this is associated with funeral rites) and do not point at people with them.
  7. Internet and Connectivity. Remember the "Great Firewall": many familiar messengers and social networks are blocked. Take care of installing VPN services or purchasing a tourist SIM card with data roaming included in advance, before crossing the border.
  8. A Tasty Tip. The region is famous for its mangoes, which are considered some of the best in the country. Be sure to try local varieties of this fruit or desserts made from it, and do not miss the chance to taste traditional dishes of the Zhuang people.

By following these simple tips, you can avoid everyday difficulties and fully focus on exploring the culture and nature of this colourful city. May your journey be easy, safe, and full of vivid impressions!
