The climate of Lincang can be described as mild subtropical, often compared to an "eternal spring". The dry season sets in from November and continues until April. The driest months are considered to be January, February, and March, when only about 1 mm of precipitation falls, and the number of rainy days decreases to 5–7 per month. This is the most favourable time for hiking and sightseeing without the need to constantly carry a raincoat.

The climate in Lincang is notable for its mildness, so the principle of layering will be a universal solution for the traveller. Even if the air warms up to a comfortable 20–25°C during the day, evenings and nights can be quite fresh, especially in winter and the shoulder seasons, when the thermometer drops to 5–10°C. We recommend taking light t-shirts and shirts, but be sure to supplement your wardrobe with a warm sweater, fleece jacket, or mid-season jacket that is easy to take off or put on when the weather changes.

Particular attention should be paid to precipitation, the nature of which depends heavily on the time of year.
