Current Weather

Planning a trip to Sanhe? In this section, you'll find the most up-to-date weather information and detailed forecasts to help you perfectly plan every day of your journey through China.

Overview

The climate in Sanhe, located in China's Hebei Province, is distinctly continental with a clear change of seasons. Travelers can expect a classic combination for northern regions: freezing and nearly dry winters followed by warm, and at times quite humid, summers.

The average annual temperature in the city is around 11°C, characterizing the climate as moderately cool. However, the weather fluctuates significantly throughout the year, from harsh winter lows to summer heat. Spring and autumn are transitional periods here, when nature changes rapidly and the air gradually warms or cools, delighting tourists with freshness and an abundance of sunny days.

One of the region's key features is the contrast between the humid summer period and the dry winter. If you're looking for clear skies and crisp air, the winter months are ideal, while summer offers lush greenery but requires being prepared for occasional rain.

Temperature

The temperature profile of Sanhe shows impressive variety throughout the year, with fluctuations reaching up to 40 degrees. The coldest month is January, when nighttime temperatures drop to -9°C, and daytime readings only slightly rise above freezing. Winter in this region of China is frosty but usually sunny and invigorating.

Summer brings real heat to Sanhe. The highest temperatures are recorded in June and July, when average daytime highs reach +32°C...+33°C. Combined with higher humidity, these months can feel stifling, so peak tourist comfort often occurs in May and September, when the air warms to a pleasant +27°C and nights remain refreshing.

A key feature of the local climate is the diurnal temperature range, which is especially noticeable in spring and autumn. For example, in April, it can be summer-warm during the day (+21°C), while at night the temperature can drop to +8°C. Travelers should consider this when planning evening walks, choosing clothing that is easy to layer.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Sanhe follows a strict seasonal rhythm characteristic of northern China. The city has a clearly defined rainy season during the summer months. Humidity peaks in July and August: July sees over 216 mm of rainfall, with rain occurring on average 14 days a month. Heavy downpours are possible during this period, bringing long-awaited freshness after the daytime heat.

Conversely, the winter period is exceptionally dry. From December to February, precipitation is minimal, totaling just a few millimeters per month. If it does occur, it is most often in the form of light snow, which quickly creates a true winter wonderland atmosphere in the city. January even breaks records for the number of sunny and completely "dry" days.

Spring and autumn delight tourists with stability and an absence of prolonged bad weather. In March and April, rainfall gradually increases but remains within a comfortable 11–28 mm range. September also remains a very pleasant month to visit: although summer has just ended, rain occurs much less frequently, giving way to clear autumn air and blue skies.

Packing Tips

When packing for Sanhe, it is important to account for the significant seasonal temperature swings. If your trip to China falls during the winter months (December–February), be sure to bring warm winter clothing: a high-quality down jacket, thermal underwear, a wool hat, and gloves, as temperatures below -9°C are not uncommon here. For spring and autumn, layering is the ideal solution—combining T-shirts with fleece sweaters or light jackets will keep you comfortable during both cool mornings and warm afternoons.

For a summer visit, choose clothing made from light natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. However, don't forget to pack an umbrella or raincoat, as July and August are times of active summer precipitation. Sunglasses and sunscreen will be useful in almost any season, as the Hebei region is famous for its high number of clear days.

Pay special attention to footwear. For active sightseeing in Sanhe, you will need the most comfortable sneakers or boots with good cushioning. In winter, it is better to opt for thick-soled boots with fur lining, while waterproof options are best for rainy summers to ensure the weather doesn't interfere with your walks.
