The climate in Yanjiao, located in Hebei Province in close proximity to Beijing, is distinctly temperate continental. This part of China is characterized by four distinct seasons, each with its own unique atmosphere: from frosty, sunny winters to hot, humid summers.

Winter months in the region are typically harsh and dry due to the influence of Mongolian air masses. Summer brings the East Asian monsoons, making the weather warm and rainy. The transitional seasons—spring and autumn—are considered the most favorable and comfortable for tourists, offering mild temperatures and mostly clear days.

The overall climate favors visiting the city during the warmer months, especially from May to October. During this period, nature is in full bloom, and average air temperatures stay above +15°C, providing excellent conditions for walks and exploring local attractions.

Temperature patterns in Yanjiao are characterized by significant fluctuations throughout the year. January is the coldest month, with average nightly lows dropping to -8.7°C, while daily highs barely cross the +2°C mark. Winters here are consistently frosty, but thanks to the dry air, the cold is relatively easy to bear if you are dressed appropriately.

Summers in the city are hot and humid. Temperatures peak in July and August, when average daily highs reach about +30...+32°C. On particularly hot days, the mercury can rise even higher, creating conditions typical of the subtropics. Nighttime temperatures in summer remain high, around +21...+23°C, providing only slight relief from the daytime heat.

The transitional seasons show rapid warming or cooling. For example, in March, the average temperature is about +7.8°C, and by May, it rises to +21.7°C. A characteristic feature of Yanjiao's climate is the noticeable daily temperature range, especially in spring and autumn, when the difference between a sunny day and a cool evening can reach 10–15 degrees.

Precipitation patterns in Yanjiao are marked by sharp seasonality. The bulk of moisture occurs during the summer, which is officially considered the rainy season. July is the wettest month of the year: average rainfall reaches an impressive 217 mm, and there can be up to 14 rainy days a month. Intense thunderstorms and downpours are common during this time, bringing welcome freshness after the midday heat.

In contrast, the winter months are extremely dry. Precipitation is very rare in January and February, with monthly volumes often not exceeding 2–8 mm. When precipitation does occur, it is primarily in the form of light snow, which can linger on the ground due to consistently low temperatures. On average, there are 5 to 10 snowfalls per winter, making the winter landscapes of northern China particularly graphic.

Spring and autumn in Yanjiao are periods of moderate humidity. In April and October, the number of rainy days is small (about 3–4 per month), and precipitation usually falls as short, light showers. This stability makes the transitional seasons ideal for those who prefer dry weather and clear skies during their travels.

When packing for Yanjiao, focus primarily on seasonality. If your trip is planned for winter (December–February), be sure to bring a warm down jacket, high-quality thermal underwear, a hat, and gloves. The dry cold in this part of China can be quite piercing. For the summer months (June–August), lightweight clothing made from natural fabrics, shorts, and T-shirts are ideal; however, it is critical to have a reliable umbrella or raincoat to protect against monsoon downpours.

During the spring and autumn months, it is best to stick to the principle of layering. Mornings and evenings in April or October can be quite cool, requiring a windbreaker or a light sweater, while during the day, it becomes summer-warm in the sun. Comfortable closed shoes with good cushioning are a must for getting around the city comfortably at any time of year.

Don't forget useful small items: sunglasses and sunscreen will come in handy in spring and autumn due to the abundance of sunny days. It's also worth bringing a universal adapter for Chinese power outlets and insect repellent if you plan to visit park areas during the summer.
