Overview

Turbo, located in the department of Antioquia on the shores of the Gulf of Urabá, welcomes travelers with a classic hot tropical climate. There is no typical change of four seasons here; instead, the weather in this part of Colombia is characterized by an enviable consistency in temperature and high humidity throughout the year. Its proximity to the equator and the influence of the Caribbean Sea create an atmosphere of eternal summer, where warm sea breezes soften the equatorial heat.

The general nature of the weather can be described as humid and stable. Throughout the year, there are only periods with varying rainfall intensity; however, even in the "driest" months, nature remains lush and green thanks to regular tropical rains. An elevation of only 5 meters above sea level contributes to the air heating up quickly, and humidity often exceeds 80%, which is worth considering when planning active outings.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Turbo is remarkably stable: the annual range of average values fluctuates by only 1–2 degrees. The hottest months are February, March, and April, when daytime highs confidently reach +29.6°C. During this time, the air is warmed to its maximum, creating ideal conditions for lovers of true tropical heat.

Even in the "coolest" months, such as November or December, temperatures in this part of Colombia rarely drop below +24°C. Daily temperature fluctuations are minimal — the difference between a sweltering day and a warm night is only 2–4 degrees, so any evening coolness here is relative. The Caribbean Sea water temperature off the coast remains comfortable year-round, warming up to +29°C, allowing you to enjoy swimming regardless of the calendar.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Turbo is abundant, which is typical for the coastal zone of Colombia. The city does not experience drought in the usual sense: rains occur regularly, sustaining the region's lush tropical forests. The wettest periods are traditionally considered to be May and June, as well as October and November. During these times, downpours can be particularly intense, often accompanied by thunderstorms, but they are usually short-lived.

In the rainiest months, the number of "wet" days reaches 26–29, but this should not deter tourists — most often these are powerful tropical discharges, after which the sky clears quickly. The relatively dry season occurs in January and February, when the frequency of precipitation is nearly halved and sunny days become significantly more frequent. Snow is completely absent in this region, and air humidity stays consistently high (around 88%), making the air soft but saturated with moisture.

Packing Tips

When packing for Turbo, opt for clothing made from natural fabrics. Cotton t-shirts, linen shirts, and light shorts will be your salvation in Colombia's high humidity. Avoid thick synthetics, as they can increase the feeling of stuffiness. Since tropical downpours are common in this region, be sure to bring a light raincoat or a compact umbrella, as well as waterproof shoes or quick-drying sandals.

The sun on the coast shines very brightly even through the clouds, so SPF 50+ sunscreen, high-quality sunglasses, and a hat should be the first items in your backpack. For evening walks along the shore or boat trips, a light windbreaker to protect against the sea breeze will come in handy. Also, don't forget insect repellent, which is especially important during periods of high humidity, and swimwear for relaxing in the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea.
