The majestic Recouvrance Bridge is more than just a transport artery; it is one of the most recognizable technical symbols that Brest takes pride in. Located in the heart of the maritime capital of France, this bridge connects the central part of the city with the picturesque historical Recouvrance quarter.

The structure is a unique vertical-lift bridge spanning the Penfeld River. Built between 1950 and 1954 according to the design of the outstanding engineer Jean Grattesat, it replaced the Pont National bridge which was destroyed during the war. At the time of its opening, this engineering masterpiece was considered the largest lift bridge in all of Europe.
The architectural appearance of the site is impressive in its scale: four massive concrete towers, each 70 meters high, hold the central lifting span. This design allows huge ships to enter the harbor unhindered, emphasizing the city's status as an important naval center and symbolizing its post-war rebirth.
