In the heart of the historical center of Metz lies the Musée de La Cour d’Or — one of the most important cultural institutions in France. This museum of art and history is a grand complex covering approximately 5,000 m², with collections spanning a colossal period: from the Gallo-Roman era to the 20th century.

The museum's exhibition is unique because it is housed within an ensemble of historic buildings, notably the medieval Chèvremont granary and the former church of the Petit Carmes monastery. Here, visitors can see authentic thermal baths from the Roman period, preserved in their original location, as well as outstanding examples of Merovingian sculpture.
As admission to the museum is free, it is one of the most visited and accessible attractions in the region. The Musée de La Cour d’Or is not just a repository of artifacts, but a living labyrinth of history, where each hall reveals a new chapter of the past of Lorraine and the entire European continent.
