History & Facts

The history of this amazing place began in 1992, when Varieté et cetera existed as a mobile tent theater. Founders Jörg Richter, Silvia, and Ronny Cabello—along with like-minded associates—purchased equipment from a former nomadic political cabaret from the GDR, creating the first mobile variety theater of its kind in the newly reunified Germany.

For seven years, the troupe led a nomadic lifestyle, touring the country with more than 50 different shows and actively collaborating with international artists. However, in December 1999, the team made a life-changing decision to stay in the city of Bochum on a permanent basis and stop dismantling their famous tent.

A new milestone in the venue's history came in 2011. The team finally moved away from temporary structures and built a permanent theater building. The modern structure, with its impressive facade and stylish interior, allowed the show and service quality to reach completely new heights, while still maintaining the cozy atmosphere that audiences fell in love with during its traveling years.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the atmosphere and the performance itself, visitors are recommended to set aside 2 to 3 hours for their visit. This is enough time to comfortably take your seats, browse the program, and watch the main part of the show without rushing.

If you plan to combine watching the artistic performances with a fine dinner, you should arrive a little early. The gastronomic component is an important part of the experience at this theater, so allow extra time for a leisurely meal before the start or during the intermissions.

Working Hours

The theater's office and box office are open primarily on weekdays, which should be taken into account when planning a visit or purchasing tickets on-site. The current opening hours are as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday — from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM; Thursday and Friday — from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The box office and office are closed on Saturday and Sunday; however, the performances themselves usually take place according to the poster schedule, so it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance online or during working hours.
