The mosque is an impressive five-story building designed in an Ottoman architectural style with elements of modernism. It is crowned by a massive 35-meter-high dome, flanked by two elegant minarets reaching 55 meters in height. This structure has become one of the symbols of modern Cologne, showcasing the boldness of architectural thought.
One of the key features of the project is the extensive use of glass. According to the architects, the glass dome and vast glass walls symbolize openness and hospitality. This design not only fills the interior with light but also gives the entire complex a sense of lightness and airiness.
The Central Mosque is designed to accommodate up to 2,000 worshippers at once. However, its significance goes far beyond its religious functions. It was conceived as an important cultural center intended to promote dialogue and mutual understanding, serving as a bridge between different cultures and communities in Cologne and throughout Germany.
