The path to a stationary museum was gradual: back in 1980, Helen organized the first "mobile" children's museum using a double-decker bus. After the family moved to Fulda in 1988, Bonsel purchased a former industrial building, which eventually became a modern 2,000-square-meter center for science and creativity.

The official launch happened rapidly. After presenting the concept at the Vonderau Museum, the project received massive support. In its very first year, unique workshops and exhibitions began, laying the foundation for what we know today as the Kinder-Akademie Fulda.
