How to get to Paros

Paros is a picturesque island of the Cyclades archipelago, famous for its golden beaches, traditional whitewashed houses, and vibrant atmosphere. You can reach this popular resort in Greece by air or by sea, choosing the most convenient route via Athens or neighbouring islands. A trip to Paros promises to be an unforgettable introduction to Greek culture and nature.

The fastest way to reach the island is by air. The local Paros Airport (PAS) serves approximately 250,000 passengers annually, receiving flights from Athens and other major hubs. Flying allows you to save significant time and enjoy the panorama of the Aegean Sea from above.

If direct tickets for your desired dates are unavailable, a convenient alternative is flying to neighbouring islands. Airports in the cities of Naxos (20 km away) and Ermoupoli (44 km away) are located very close by, from where the journey to your final destination can easily be continued by ferry.

It is important to note that on the island of Paros, as on most islands of the Cyclades, railway services are completely absent. The terrain and island geography make this mode of transport irrelevant for the region.

The cities closest to the island, Naxos and Ermoupoli, also do not have railway stations. Travellers who prefer trains are advised to travel by rail to Athens, and then transfer to a ferry at the port of Piraeus.

However, upon arrival, you will discover an excellently developed network of local buses (KTEL). This is the most affordable way to get from the port to any village or beach while enjoying the views from the window of comfortable transport.

Travelling by car to Paros from neighbouring points, such as Naxos or Ermoupoli, is possible only by using car ferries. The indicated distance (about 38–48 km) is covered by sea, and travel time depends on the vessel schedule.

Having a car offers freedom of movement around the island itself. By renting a car or arriving in your own vehicle, you can explore remote corners of the region at your own pace, without depending on public transport schedules.

When planning a trip to Paros, it is worth considering the specifics of island life to ensure your holiday is as comfortable as possible. Knowing a few simple rules will help you adapt to the local rhythm faster.

1. Clothing and Essentials. It is hot in summer, but windy due to the seasonal Meltemi wind, so a light jacket or shawl for evening walks will be useful.
2. Transport. For complete freedom of movement, it is better to rent a scooter or car, as buses may not travel to remote, secluded beaches.
