Trivandrum Zoo, also known as Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, is a true oasis of wildlife in the very heart of Trivandrum. It is considered one of the oldest and largest zoological parks in India, with a history dating back to 1857. Spread over a vast territory of more than 22 hectares, the park includes forested areas, manicured lawns, and scenic lakes, creating a unique atmosphere for visitors and comfortable conditions for its residents.

The main feature of this place is its innovative approach to animal care. After a major renovation that began in the late 20th century, most residents live in spacious "island-style" enclosures rather than traditional cages. These enclosures are surrounded by deep water moats, allowing visitors to observe the animals in conditions that are as close as possible to their natural habitat. This design not only ensures safety but also provides a sense of complete immersion in nature.
The zoo's collection includes more than 80 animal species from around the world, including rare and endangered ones. Here, you can encounter Asiatic lions, Royal Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceroses, and endemic species such as the lion-tailed macaque. Additionally, the zoo features a separate serpentarium with a rich collection of reptiles, where one of the main highlights is a giant anaconda. Visiting Trivandrum Zoo is a wonderful opportunity to escape the city bustle and discover an amazing variety of fauna.
