Overview

The climate in Mulegé can be described as hot and arid, typical of the desert regions of Baja California. Eternal summer reigns here with plenty of sunny days, and rain is an extremely rare occurrence. Precipitation is practically non-existent throughout the year: even at the end of summer, when slight cloudiness is possible, moisture levels remain minimal, so travelers are unlikely to have to worry about bad weather.

The temperature regime clearly divides the year into two periods. From June to September, there is real heat: the average temperature exceeds 30°C, and during the day, the thermometer often rises to 35°C or higher. Winter and the shoulder seasons, by contrast, are mild and comfortable. From November to April, daytime temperatures stay in a pleasant range of 22–28°C, creating ideal conditions for walks and outdoor activities, although nights can be quite cool.

Temperature

The climate in Mulegé features pronounced seasonal contrasts, offering tourists a variety of weather conditions depending on the time of year. The annual temperature range varies from moderately warm winter figures to intense summer heat. The hottest months are traditionally July and August, when the average air temperature exceeds 31°C, and daytime temperatures often reach 36°C. January, on the other hand, is considered the coolest month of the year with an average of about 17°C.

The summer period here is truly hot. From June to September, daytime highs stay steadily in the 34–36°C range, and nights offer no significant relief, remaining very warm with temperatures around 24–27°C. Winter in Mulegé is mild and pleasant: from December to February, the daytime air warms up to a comfortable 22–23°C, which is ideal for long walks and sightseeing without the risk of overheating.

Travelers should also take into account the noticeable daily temperature fluctuations characteristic of the spring and autumn seasons. For example, in April and May, the difference between daytime heat and nighttime cool can be about 12 degrees. If the sun warms the air to 28–31°C during the day, the temperature drops to 16–18°C by night, so a light jacket or sweater for the evening will be very useful.

Precipitation

Mulegé is characterized by an extremely arid climate, so precipitation is a rare occurrence here. For tourists, this means almost guaranteed sunny weather at any time of year. There is no snow in this Mexican town, as even on the coldest winter nights the temperature remains comfortable, and rain, if it happens, is episodic.

A slight increase in humidity is observed in the second half of summer and early autumn. The "rainiest" months are technically August and September, when about 6 days with precipitation are recorded. However, even during this period, the volume of rainfall is minimal (only 1–2 mm), so don't expect prolonged downpours — most likely, these will be just short-lived events followed quickly by sun.

During the rest of the year, especially in spring (from March to May) and early winter, rain is almost completely absent. In these months, the probability of precipitation approaches zero, and the sky remains consistently clear, creating ideal conditions for beach holidays and sightseeing without the need for an umbrella.

Packing Tips

When packing for Mulegé, keep in mind that the climate here is mostly dry and warm, so your wardrobe should be based on light and breathable items. In the summer months, from June to September, when daytime temperatures often exceed 30°C and can reach 36°C, prioritize loose clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen. Be sure to bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-quality sunglasses, and a high-SPF sunscreen (SPF 50+), as the sun in this region of Mexico is very intense.

The winter period and early spring (from December to April) offer comfortable weather with average temperatures around 17–22°C, but nights can be quite cool, with the thermometer dropping to 12–14°C. For evening walks and early morning excursions, use the principle of layering: bring a hoodie, fleece, or light windbreaker. Since rain in Mulegé is rare, you're unlikely to need a heavy raincoat, but brief showers are possible in August and September, so a light poncho won't hurt.

As for footwear, sandals are ideal for the beach, while for exploring city sights and the surrounding area, it's better to choose comfortable closed sneakers or light walking shoes. Don't forget your swimwear, as even in the cooler months, sunny days are perfect for relaxing by the water. It is also recommended to always carry a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated in the dry climate.
