Alberton is a magnificent historic mansion-museum located in the quiet suburb of Mount Albert. This majestic house, which has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Auckland, offers a fascinating journey into the past. New Zealand carefully preserves this building, which is recognized as a Category 1 heritage site.

The mansion was built around 1863 as the heart of the Kerr Taylor family's vast estate. Its architectural style is unique, harmoniously blending features of a classic colonial house with exotic elements of Anglo-Indian architecture. Distinctive towers with curved roofs and an eastern wing featuring an elegant ballroom make the building a true work of art.
Today, the mansion is open to the public as an immersive museum. Inside, 18 rooms have been preserved, furnished with authentic pieces and decorated with artifacts that belonged to the owners for over a century. Alberton is famous for its "lived-in" atmosphere: it feels as though the owners have only stepped out for a brief walk in the garden and are about to return for afternoon tea.
