Imagine a space where the strict classics of the past meet the bold design of the future—this is exactly what the Auckland War Memorial Museum Atrium looks like. This grand architectural expansion, also known as Te Ao Mārama, is located in the heart of Auckland. New Zealand is rightfully proud of this site, which has transformed a historic museum into a modern cultural hub.

The atrium is a multi-level structure covering over 9,000 m², enclosed in an unusual "bowl" shape (tanoa). The main highlight is the suspended copper and glass dome weighing 700 tons, which fills the space with natural light. The seven levels of the atrium include relaxation zones, educational centers, and venues for cultural events, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for every visitor.
The design of the atrium is deeply symbolic: the use of tawa wood, basalt, and brass inlays reflects a connection to Māori and Pacific traditions. It is not just an entrance to the museum, but a complete work of art that serves as a bridge between different cultures and eras, highlighting the region's unique identity.
