If you are looking for a holiday destination with guaranteed clear weather, Muscat can be an excellent choice, although it is important to consider the high temperatures, especially during the summer months.

Two main seasons can be distinguished in Muscat, defined by the temperature regime. Summer, lasting roughly from May to September, is characterized by very hot weather. Average daytime temperatures during this period often exceed 30-35°C, and sometimes reach even higher marks. Winter, from December to February, brings more moderate and comfortable temperatures, averaging around 20-25°C, making this time of year particularly attractive for visiting the city and exploring its surroundings.

One of the key features of Muscat's climate is the virtually complete absence of rainfall throughout the year, as shown by the data. The number of "wet days" is minimal, meaning rain is a great rarity here. This ensures consistently sunny weather but also highlights the arid nature of the region.

The annual temperature regime in Muscat demonstrates significant fluctuations characteristic of a desert climate. The hottest period is typically June, when the average temperature reaches 33.0°C, and maximum values can rise to 36.5°C. May and July are also characterized by very high temperatures, with average values of 31.3°C and 32.4°C respectively. The coolest month is considered to be January, with an average temperature of 20.5°C and minimum night-time temperatures dropping on average to 17.7°C. December also brings pleasant coolness with an average temperature of 21.8°C.

The summer months in Muscat, especially from May to September, are distinguished by intense heat. Average daytime temperatures during this period consistently stay above 30°C. In peak months, such as June, average maximum temperatures reach 36.5°C, and in July – 35.2°C. Even nights remain very warm: for example, in June and July, the average minimum temperature is 29.6°C. This creates a sensation of constant heat, which can be quite palpable, especially in the middle of the day.

The winter season, covering the months from December to February, offers much more comfortable conditions for visiting Muscat. Average daytime temperatures at this time fluctuate in the range of 23-25°C (for example, 23.4°C in January, 24.8°C in February), which is ideal for walking and sightseeing. Nights become noticeably cooler, with average minimum temperatures around 18-19°C (17.7°C in January, 19.0°C in February). Throughout the year, there is a noticeable difference between day and night temperatures, averaging about 5-7°C, which ensures warm days and fresher evenings and mornings, especially during the winter period.

Muscat is characterized by an extremely arid climate, and precipitation here is an exceptionally rare and insignificant phenomenon. Throughout the year, according to monthly average data, the amount of rainfall is 0 mm. This means one should not expect heavy or even moderate rain in Muscat, and the city enjoys dry and sunny weather almost constantly. Snow is impossible in such a hot desert climate.

Despite the zero amount of precipitation, the statistics include so-called "wet days". Their number ranges from 0 to 2 days per month. This suggests that traces of moisture may sometimes be observed, possibly in the form of very light drizzle or brief, barely noticeable precipitation that does not lead to measurable water accumulation. Thus, even on "wet days", the probability of encountering rain that could affect your plans is minimal.

When planning a trip to Muscat, it is important to choose the right wardrobe to feel comfortable in its hot desert climate conditions. It is sunny all year round here, and rainfall is a great rarity. Therefore, the basis of your luggage should be light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Do not forget sunscreen with high SPF, high-quality sunglasses, and headgear (a hat or cap) for protection against the intense sun. Comfortable walking shoes are also mandatory, as you will surely want to explore the city. Given the virtually complete absence of rain, you will most likely not need an umbrella.

In the hottest months, which last in Muscat roughly from May to September, when the daytime temperature regularly exceeds 35°C, give preference to maximally loose light-coloured clothing. It will not only help you endure the heat more easily but will also reflect the sun's rays. If your plans include visiting beaches or a pool, do not forget swimwear. During this period, it is especially important to thoroughly protect your skin and head from the scorching sun, so a light cover-up or a long-sleeved shirt made of natural fabric can be useful not only for complying with the dress code in some places but also for additional protection against UV rays.

In the "cooler" season, from December to February, daytime temperatures in Muscat become significantly more comfortable, hovering around 20-25°C. During the day, you will still need summer clothes. However, evenings and early mornings can be quite fresh, especially compared to the daytime heat, so it is worth taking a light cardigan, thin jumper, or stole with you. This principle of layering will allow you to feel comfortable during temperature changes or in air-conditioned rooms. Even in these months, the sun remains active, so do not forget about sun protection products.
