Sohar welcomes travellers with a hot desert climate, characterised by abundant sunshine and minimal rainfall. The weather here remains warm or hot throughout the year, making this Omani city an excellent destination for warmth seekers, although the summer months can be a true test of endurance due to the heat.

Two main periods can be clearly distinguished during the year. Summer, lasting from May to September, is notable for high temperatures, when the thermometer consistently stays above 30°C even at night, and approaches 40°C during the day. The winter season, by contrast, is very comfortable and mild: from December to February, the air warms up on average to a pleasant 20-25°C, creating ideal conditions for walking and exploring the city.

A distinct feature of the local climate is exceptional dryness. Rain in this region is a rarity; even in the "wettest" months, no more than 2-3 days with precipitation are recorded, and the volume is practically negligible. Thanks to this, the sky above the city almost always remains clear, guaranteeing tourists sunny weather regardless of the time chosen for the trip.

The climate in the city of Sohar can be described as hot and arid. The sun shines here practically all year round, and precipitation falls extremely rarely. The temperature regime changes significantly depending on the season, which is worth considering when planning your journey.

Winter (from December to February) is considered the most favourable time for a visit. During this period, mild and comfortable weather sets in. The average air temperature holds at the level of +20...+22°C. During the day, the air usually warms up to +24...+26°C, and nights bring pleasant freshness when the thermometer drops to +15...+17°C.

Summer in the region is very hot. From June to August, average figures reach +33...+35°C, and daytime maximums often approach the +40°C mark. A characteristic feature of the local climate is very warm nights: even after sunset, the temperature rarely falls below +29...+30°C.

The transition seasons — spring and autumn — pass quite quickly. March and November offer tourists excellent conditions for relaxation with an average temperature of about +24...+25°C. However, already in May and September, the heat becomes quite perceptible, resembling the summer swelter.

The climate in this region is distinguished by exceptional dryness, so Sohar rarely sees rain. Precipitation falls here extremely irregularly and in minimal quantities, making the city an excellent destination for lovers of sunny weather. Throughout the year, there are practically no months when rains could seriously disrupt travellers' plans.

The summer period, especially June, August, and September, is characterised by a complete absence of rain — the number of days with precipitation at this time is zero. Even in April, which statistically shows the highest number of "wet" days (about three), the volume of precipitation remains insignificant. In winter and autumn, the probability of short-term rains remains at the level of 1–2 days per month, but their intensity is extremely low.

Thus, a pronounced rainy season is not observed here. The average monthly rainfall level fluctuates from 0 to 1 mm, which testifies to the desert nature of the climate. When packing for a trip to Oman, you can safely leave your umbrella at home, paying more attention to protection from the sun and heat.

A trip to Sohar requires the right wardrobe selection, considering the region's hot and dry climate. For a trip in the spring-summer period, when daytime temperatures often exceed +30°C and sometimes reach +40°C, give preference to loose-fitting clothing in light colours made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen. Do not forget about reliable protection from the active sun: be sure to put high SPF cream, quality sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat in your suitcase.

In the winter months, the weather becomes milder and more pleasant for excursions, however, evenings and nights can be cool, with temperatures around +15–17°C. We recommend taking a light jacket, jumper, or stole to feel comfortable after sunset or in premises with powerful air conditioners. Since precipitation falls here extremely rarely, you will hardly need an umbrella or raincoat, but comfortable flat shoes will become your best companion during long walks.
