How to get to Munda

Munda is a picturesque settlement located on New Georgia Island in the western part of the Solomon Islands archipelago. Getting here is easiest by air, but the journey itself to this remote corner of the planet becomes a true adventure for lovers of the exotic.

The fastest and most convenient way to reach this region is by air. The local Munda Airport (MUA) handles regular flights connecting the settlement with other parts of the archipelago, including the capital. Flying over the islands gifts passengers with breathtaking views of coral reefs and turquoise waters.

The airport is located very conveniently regarding the main infrastructure, so transfers to most guest houses take just a few minutes. Thanks to having its own air harbour, Munda serves as an important transport hub for the entire Western Province.

Railway services in Munda, as throughout the Solomon Islands, are completely absent. The geographical features of the archipelago and the complex terrain of the islands make the construction of railways impractical.

Travellers accustomed to trains will have to switch to air or water transport here. Movement between the islands is carried out by planes or boats, which is the only alternative to land routes.

In Munda, there is no centralized intercity bus system in the usual sense. Public transport here is represented primarily by private minivans or trucks running between neighbouring villages, but they rarely adhere to a strict schedule.
