The route along the ocean from Batticaloa, spanning 135 kilometres, usually takes about 3 hours. The most convenient method of movement remains booking an official taxi or a private transfer with a driver: although this costs more than public transport (approximately 50 to 90 USD depending on the distance and car class), you get air conditioning, privacy, and the ability to get straight to your hotel without transfers.
