Nature lovers will appreciate the rich diversity of avian residents: the garden is considered the most bird-populated spot in the city. Winding paths, fountains, and a cozy open-air cafe make this place ideal for leisurely strolls and relaxation.

History & Facts

The history of this site began in the mid-19th century, when the idea of creating a training base for gardeners in Karlstad arose in 1857. Landscaping work in the Victorian style started in 1863. A major milestone was the construction of the Orangeriet building in 1865, which served not only as an ornament but also as a center for teaching the art of horticulture.

The park continued to develop over many years, with restaurants and pavilions appearing on its grounds; however, in 1959, the wooden restaurant building was destroyed by fire. This incident led to a period of relative neglect that lasted until the early 1990s. In 1993, the local municipality initiated a large-scale restoration project aimed at returning the garden to its original historical appearance.

Today, this carefully restored space combines the spirit of the past with modern amenities. Ancient oaks, elms, and maples that have survived for decades remain living witnesses to the long history of this wonderful natural corner.

Time Needed

To leisurely explore every corner of the garden and enjoy its flora, 1–2 hours is sufficient for most visitors. This is enough time to stroll along the main paths, view the plant collection, and take a short break by the water.

If you plan to have a picnic, do some photography, or spend more time at the cafe, it is worth setting aside about 3 hours for your visit. The garden invites a contemplative pace, so you certainly won't want to rush your experience.

Working Hours

Access to the park grounds is open to everyone 24/7, allowing you to enjoy walks in both the morning sun and the evening twilight. Regardless of the day of the week or holidays, the garden gates remain open, inviting guests at any time they find convenient.

It is important to note that additional facilities, such as the summer cafe, have their own operating hours, which may vary depending on weather conditions and the current season.
