This is not just a stadium, but a true masterpiece of engineering, built to the Minergie-P standard. The building is equipped with solar panels and advanced energy-saving technologies, making it one of the most eco-friendly sports facilities in the region. Under its roof, the famous handball club Pfadi Winterthur and the floorball team HC Rychenberg train and hold their matches.

The Winterthur Arena is part of a large-scale business park that brings medicine, education, and sports together under one roof. A barrier-free environment has been created here, ensuring the complex is fully accessible to people with disabilities, highlighting the welcoming and open nature of the venue.

What to Do

The main reason to visit this venue is the thrilling sporting events. Here, you can witness high-stakes handball or floorball matches at the top national level. The atmosphere of the stands supporting their favorites provides unforgettable emotions, while the modern hall facilities guarantee an excellent view from every seat.

Beyond watching the game, guests are invited to take a peek behind the scenes of professional sports. The WIN4 complex houses an elite fitness center and specialized training halls, where you can see future champions from the "Talent-Campus Winterthur" school preparing. It is a unique opportunity to feel the rhythm of life of the Swiss sporting elite.

For those who prefer active recreation, there are opportunities for tennis in a separate, spacious hall. After training or watching a match, you can recharge at the local bistro, which serves light snacks and drinks. It is a great place to discuss the game's outcome with like-minded people or simply relax in a modern setting.

Getting There

Getting to this modern sports cluster is easy. The Winterthur Arena is located at Grüzefeldstrasse 36. The most convenient way for tourists is to use the well-developed public transport network. Right next to the complex is the "Scheidegg" bus stop, served by city route No. 3.

If you prefer a taxi, the journey from the city's main railway station takes only about 5–10 minutes. For those traveling by private or rental car, there is a spacious public underground parking lot, making it much easier to find a spot in the busy Mattenbach district.

Neighboring sports facilities serve as helpful landmarks: the Zielbau-Arena ice rink and the Deutweg stadium are located in the immediate vicinity. This concentration of sports infrastructure makes the area easily recognizable and accessible to any visitor to the city.

History & Facts

The journey toward creating one of the most modern venues in the region began back in 2006. At that time, authorities and the sporting community realized that the old Eulachhall could no longer cope with the load and the requirements of the time. The project underwent a long transformation: the original plans, which focused on tennis and ice hockey, were rejected in 2011, prompting a search for a more flexible and large-scale solution.

The turning point came when private investors from Wincity AG took over. In 2017, the foundation stone was laid for the future complex, named WIN4. This abbreviation symbolizes the synergy of four areas: sports, health, education, and events. Just a year and a half later, in August 2018, the arena hosted its first matches, becoming the new home for the city's leading clubs.

Interestingly, the building was constructed according to strict Minergie-P environmental standards. It not only consumes minimal energy but also generates its own power thanks to powerful photovoltaic panels on the roof. This makes the facility a shining example of sustainable development in sports architecture.

Despite its youth, the Winterthur Arena has already made its mark on international sporting history. In November 2022, the venue saw intense action as it hosted 23 matches of the World Floorball Championship, proving its ability to organize tournaments at the highest international level.

Time Needed

When planning your visit, you should consider the purpose of your trip. If you've come to cheer for your favorite team, a standard handball or floorball match, including the pre-match program and breaks, will take about 2–3 hours. This is enough time to enjoy the game and soak up the sporting atmosphere.

For those who want to explore the WIN4 campus in more detail, visit the fitness center, or have a bite at the local bistro, we recommend setting aside 3–4 hours. The complex's extensive grounds and modern architecture deserve a leisurely look, especially if you are interested in sports management or eco-friendly construction.

Working Hours

The operating hours of the Winterthur Arena depend directly on the calendar of sporting competitions, concerts, and other public events. On days of national handball or floorball championships, the doors of the complex open several hours before the matches begin.

Since there is no fixed schedule for general visits, we strongly recommend checking the current schedule on the official WIN4 website before your trip. You can also contact the administration directly to clarify the opening hours of the fitness center or bistro on the day of your visit.
