The exhibit is filled with educational opportunities: information stands and expert talks help explain the role of each species in the global ecosystem. Families with children will appreciate the special play areas where learning becomes an engaging process. The architectural design of the exhibits allows you to view the inhabitants from the best vantage points, guaranteeing great shots for photography enthusiasts.

If you feel like taking a break, the Village Plaza area features cozy cafes and souvenir shops. Here you can relax in the shade of the observation pavilions, have a snack, and purchase commemorative gifts that reflect the spirit of the Amazon rainforests.

History & Facts

The history of the zoo, which includes this exhibit, began in 1948 at Crandon Park. Interestingly, the first inhabitants of this future Miami tourism giant were just three monkeys, a domestic goat, and a pair of bears purchased from a traveling circus for a modest 270 dollars.

Nature changed the fate of the institution: in 1965, Hurricane Betsy caused serious damage to the old zoo. This event served as the catalyst for moving to a more spacious location. Its new home became the former Richmond Naval Air Station, where the zoo finally settled by 1980, gaining vast spaces to recreate natural habitats.

The "Amazon & Beyond" exhibit was one of the latest and largest development projects for the park. It demonstrates a modern approach to animal care, where the focus is not on cages but on creating complete ecosystems. In 2010, the entire complex received its current official name — Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy all the details of the "Amazon & Beyond" exhibit, it is recommended to set aside at least 3–4 hours. This is enough time to explore all four themed zones without rushing, observe rare predators, and study the inhabitants of the aquarium.

If you plan to explore the entire zoo, prepare to spend a whole day (about 6–8 hours). Keep in mind that the total length of the walking route is about 5 kilometers, so comfortable shoes and a hat will be your best companions on this adventure under the Florida sun.

Working Hours

The doors to the world of wildlife are open to guests 365 days a year, making this place accessible at any time during holidays or vacations. On weekdays (Monday to Friday), the exhibit is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On weekends (Saturday and Sunday), hours are slightly extended: from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Remember that entry to the grounds closes one hour before the park's closing time. Also, some pavilions may close slightly earlier than the main closing time, so visitors are advised to check the current schedule on the official website before their visit.
